I think at where you are at TH 8 makes upgrading to 9 a purely personal decision.A couple of my thoughts on this:

1. First, a recommendation. It seems to me that 250 gems for a shield is a waste. You should be easily able to keep your mines and collectors full with raiding. 250 gems can give you up to 50 hours of barrack boost to assist if you need them. If you leave your Town Hall out in a corner surrounded by flags and flowers, you will find that you will frequently be just sniped.

2. I am pretty much where you are. All defenses done except two bombs and one cannon. BK at 7, 32 Walls at lvl 8. I still have WBs, Healer, Lightning, Pekka 2 and 3, Valk and Golem to upgrade in Lab.

I have decided to complete all Lab upgrades except Valk and Golem, hopefullly get BK to 10 and do as many walls as possible before finishing TH 9 upgrade. My plan is to have full Gold Storages, 62.5 K DE, and enough elixir to lab and one Army Camp when TH 9 is done so I can get the 2 XBows and AQ.

I am not worried about loot penalty and TH 9 nearly as much as the fact that I am a better target for TH 10s. Now they mostly ignore me. Also, although walls don't protect from hogs, loons, drags and minions, they are a deterrent to giants from cheap attackers and GoWiPe from those who pay more to attack.

Not saying my plan is better, just that it works for me.

I'm a 3/4 maxed out TH8, the problem I see coming is that I need way more gold than I do elix to max out everything. I see me running out of elix space and still having lots of walls to upgrade.

I think I back myself into this corner by not working on my walls alittle as I went.

When/if I get to the point where I can't gain anymore elix because I have nothing to spend it on but troops, regardless of my wall situation, I'm going to go to TH9

Actually that's a good point about boosting the barracks. The only reason I wanted to get the shield was so I can fill up the collectors so I could build my second drill while I upgrade my existing drill and lab (would cost 6.5 million elixir, storages only hold 6 million). But now that I think about it it would be much smarter to just upgrade the drill an lab and then farm 500k real quick to build the second drill.

But honestly if I had built my village the "right" way and maxed each TH one at a time id just wait and do the walls too, but since i rushed up to TH 8 so quickly iv been here so long that I didn't feel like waiting any longer now that my defenses are almost done, I want some new toys already lol. I figure I'll get the walls to 7 while I build up the new Wiz tower, tesla, AD, and AT.

As someone who's maxed out at TH7 and TH8 (well...I got a little impatient with walls at TH8 ), my opinion is that Army Camps are a bigger upgrade than maxing your drills.

Think about it this way; you get your Clan Castle upgraded to hold +5 and 4x Army Camps for another +20. Your army size is something you'll use on every attack; attacks you'll use to farm Dark Elixir with your new massive army. It's a 12.5% increase in Army Size, it's huge!


My opening plan for TH9 was:
*5 Builders - 2 XBows, Laboratory, new defensive buildings, and Archer Queen to level 2
*4 Builders - Build the AQ and keep her at level 1 since there's no build time, just 40K DE.


Once I got my XBows, both builders went towards Camps. I put the builder from my Lab onto Drill #2 and kept builders #4 and #5 on the new defensive buildings to prevent from having a weak side on my base.

Both of my Drills are level 3 right now until my other 2 Camps finish upgrading.

I also made it a priority to build my 4th Elixir Storage to Level 11 fairly quickly as I planned on upgrading Barbarians first, then Archers. Although my Archers are still cooking, I almost wish I did Balloons before Archers.


And you said it in your last post; if you're bored then upgrade. It's your game so play it the way you want.

All my collectors are maxed, so is they are filled to capacity I can build my two x bows for 6 million and still have 900k leftover to build my new AD, wiz tower, and AT, plus I can upgrade my lab and an army camp. They take two days to fill up and It would be impossible to have maxed collectors and storages without a shield. I want to be able to do all these upgrades immediately, plus I already have 5 builders and a ♥♥♥♥ load of gems saved up so I figured why not.

Anyways When my shield goes down I should already have 210 troops and my lab and x bows almost up and running. Then I can just spend my gold on upgrading my new Wiz tower, Tesla, AT, AD, and leveling my walls.

So u r saying, during sheild, ur main source of income will be collectors only?

Don't bother with the shield. If you can raid more than you lose then it's not necessary. Keep your th outside for cheap shields and work on walls. During the th update I used 4 builders for upgrades and cycled the 5th builder between walls and upgrades- start an upgrade when you will have a builder come available the next day. I did about 100 level 7 walls during the upgrade and still ended up with maxed storages.

You don't need to max the base out for the town hall level your in before you upgrade.

I mean come on really? You'r going to have 2-5 builders do NOTHING while waiting for the town hall upgrade???

I will say tho, you should at least have most things upgraded before moving on, leaving enough left to keep your builders busy during the upgrade.

I hope your upgrade works out well for you and wish you the best upgrading and having fun with it. That's the main idea, having fun with YOUR base the way YOU want to do it.

All roads lead to the same place eventually. In my opinion, even with a max town hall 8, if a town hall 9 wants your loot, they will take it. It's the same logic for th8 attacking th7.

For some people they would rather enjoy upgrading new things than to sit a wait days for tesla and AD to upgrade while watching th9 come in and just take everything regardless of skull walls since both lvl7 and 8 walls take the same amount of wallbreakers to destroy.

If you are one of those people who enjoy doing that, good for you!

This. I have much experience with this, I get wrecked by TH9 all the time, I have tried different base designs and I am near maxed. So that's one reason why I'm off to TH9 now . I also agree, it's your game OP, play like you want .

The issue is that as a th8, th10s weren't gunning for you. Now as a th9, you'll be on the menu. and you might think you can just hide at lower trophies, but you'd be amazed how many th10s patrol the low trophies. You have to drop so low that you can't find good loot.

If I were in your place, I'd leave a builder always free and dump gold on walls everytime I went to log off. Would be very hard to farm up some upgrades but not much else you can do. Good luck.

It is not that easy to 3 star th 9 even for th 10 unless they use expensive troop and a lot of spells but you wont find many farmers that use expensive troop and all their spell for one raid
