im using level 5 loons and level 2 minions. not too shabby. i believe there will be a significant increase on my way up to 4. minions are in the lab right now going to 3 so i will try to update this post when done

of course lvl 4 loons didnt work when you are th8. when you are th7 and attacking other 7's they work fine.

loons dont do well punching up in weight, every lvl air d increases so much. stick to villages similar or lower then you'rself.

Definitely go for level 5 balloons. At level 5, they get that nice increase of HP which increases their longevity making them a valid strategy.

Minion level is not that majorly important, but the higher the level the tougher the bases you can handle.

at th8 i used 28 lvl 5 loons and 30 lvl 4 minions a war strategy using 2 rage one heal, needless to say i three starred many bases. clash on!

I'm a TH8 and I have maxed out loons & minions. I wouldn't recommend this strategy unless you have at least level 5 loons and about level 3 minions. Usually, well depending if I'm pushing or farming, I use 2 rage and 1 heal (all level 4) but sometimes I just like to bring along all heal.

Are you thinking of using this for pushing or farming?

For pushing. My loons will be level 4 tomorrow, and my minions are at level 2. Think I'll just wait to get them to levels 5 and 3 before I try it out.
