might just be the timing of when you play. Try going to silver 1 or gold 1 if you want. I never had trouble about g2-3 when I was TH8 a few weeks ago

Try to go lower to Silver 2 I find the most loot their personally
I did all my farming for th 8 in gold 2-1. 1500-1800 is the best. even at th 9 this range suits me good so at th 8 it should be even better since i have loot penalty.
Just be patient, dont expect a good loot raid every 5 searches or so lol I blow about 50k gold as well average but I make sure I find 150-250k raids as well.

Have you finished the campaign yet? Personally I try to fill storages and then maintain that amount while builders are busy. Higher lvl ed players will attack you for your loot and then you just monitor their base to find the best time to attack them for loot (DE in particular).
