Buy a shield or no?

Hello!

So my maxed out TH7 is currently upgrading to TH8 and there are 5 days left in the upgrade. I am MAXED on storages (Including DE) and so my collectors are just going to filling up. I've bought all decorations as well and I was wondering if I should buy a week-long shield or be nice and pour some loot back into the system.

I was considering just putting my collectors on the side but then I asked myself, "what's going to stop them from taking the storage stuff?" And so I am stuck between being nice or being just as greedy as the people who won't settle for filled collectors and go for the storages as well.

If you already have 5 builders, then do what you wish with your gems. If you don't have 5 builders, keep saving until you get enough gems.

That being said, I'd use the time to try to unlock some achievements to get MORE gems. Focus on the ones you can =)

If you have enough to buy a week shield, why not just finish th? Much more efficient.

I'd do that but my Dragon is upgrading at the same time as my TH so I'd have to gem both. It would cost about 800 gems each whereas a shield is 250.

If need be, a couple hours before your upgrade(s) finish, raid for a quick session and make up any losses you may incur from the looters that take more than your TH when they raid you during your upgrade period..

also, leave your collectors as full as possible, after you get your new toys, you will need some more loot quickly. (if you have been in a war or will before your TH finishes, then collect your war loot after you empty your storages buying and upgrading new TH8 stuff.

This is why you should never wait to be maxed to upgrade your TH.

If you made 4M in 3 days, it means you can afford to lose 200k every 12 hours. Your DE is of no use anyway so losing some of this is not a problem either.

No need to waste gems here on shield.

For TH9, prepare your upgrade better than this. Keep a few upgrades to be done so you can reach max storages a day before the TH upgrades finishes and to have at least 4 builders available.
