Is there any way as a th 8 that I can protect my DE?
I can get to like 20k DE no problem but after that I start getting raided by like th 9s+ and they take 1k everytime! And thats excluding the countless lighting spells (which I dont mind as much since they only take like 400-600) that people always do. Would dropping trophies and then relying only on my drill be a good tactic or what can I do? I am a nearley maxed th 8 and I still havent found a base that can protect my DE from th 9s

Sorry but TH9s are going to keep crushing your base. Just raid in long sessions with boosted barracks and keep your DE in the middle and your TH outside. Good luck man!

Drop on Gold 1-3, snipe DEs (I usually go for 300-500) using BARCH. Upgrade your DE storage so you'll lose less from zappers. Farming DEs on champions league as a TH8 is only great if you need fast DE and use it right away, otherwise prepare to get your base crushed (including long lines of revenge if you've stolen them from TH9s)
Probably the best advice. That and spend it as fast as you earn it. As TH 8 keep your DE based troop upgrades going and your BK upgrading all the time. Empty DE storage is a much less appealing target. You can hide some by having full camps, then before you log off cue a bunch of high value de troops in your barracks, when you log back on cancel those troops and get your elixir back. It reduces the de than can be robbed by a several hundred.

I also find that keeping your gold and elixer low and or putting your TH outside will prevent a lot of attacks. The TH outside will get u a lot of free shields, so that lowers the chance of people taking ur DE... and having low gold and elixer makes u less of a appealing target, even when there is 1000 DE up for grabs. But at the end of the day, there isnt a basedesign for TH 8 that will save u from getting 3 starred by a hungry TH9.. so just make urself as unattractive as a target as u can
I guess i'm clueless with the fact of protecting Dark Elixir. All i know is that you should buy a one week shield to protect your Dark Elixir. While your shields are up, let your drill(s) do the work. I suggest you should at least have Dark Elixir Drill upgraded to level 3 or higher. If you don't like the 1st option, drop to Gold I. They have plenty of DE there. I hope you at least pick one of the choices

From a TH9's perspective, the best thing you can do is to not have a lot of gold AND de at the same time. If I see a TH8 with 1k de and 200k gold available, I am going to attack it. However, if he has 1k de and 40k gold, I am going to hit next.
If you are saving de for something, work on walls. Right after you spend your de, start saving for a gold upgrade. It isn't 100% safe, but it is a lot safer. Also, putting your TH out is a great idea too.
this is working for me at the moment, Im farming walls and upgrading dark troops so my gold is always low and I have 40k of DE that hasnt been touched in days.
I think being a little higher in the leagues helps too - the lack of THs to snipe these days plays in your favour for a cheap shield.

My experience has been the same as smoggy.
my base layout is also fairly successful at protecting my dark from th9s. Some get in there but I'd say about half or more attempts fail to make that last step to the de. My de is in the very centre, so it's the 5th layer in, and often attacks die out at that 4th layer. While I used to think cc in the middle was best, what it found was that good attackers will lure it anyway so it was better to put the de storage there in the central spot. Bad attackers won't lure the cc anyway and those attcks don't go so well for them
advice to buy a week long shield or upgrade to th9 before you are ready is bad.
