Here is what I think the game needs, more diversity and things unique to the player. Once you get high level, there is no chance of winning, and all the strategies are the same. There will always be the same troops the champions use, and the troops that no one uses. The champs have to use similar bases, and the game gets stale. But what if there was ways for almost EVER player to be different? What if there was a lot more user input into the functionalities of the bases defenses and troops? What I'm proposing here is something that would take and extremely long amount of time to balance and perfect, but it would make the game even more fun, fresh, exciting, and would bring it to the next stage. What I'm proposing is something(s) that will make your base YOUR base, and your army YOUR army.
So lets start with the army
What I think should happen is there needs to be another building available from early on, but that needs LOTS of upgrades. The building will be different from the laboratory in that it effects troops, but slightly different. What this building does is troop customization and will go hand and hand with what I am proposing for bases later on. For this example, I will use the barbarian as it will help explain the idea the best. The barbarian is a simple warrior who shows strength and courage, but does it only deserve one weapon? There should be pros and cons to everything to help balance it, but you will understand more later on. I think the new building, the "Army Base" should be upgraded a lot and have lots of internal upgrades as well to keep the player busy. Lets say you upgrade the Army Base a lot, then you will have lots of options for barbarian customizations, and then you can spend elixir inside of the Army Camp to upgrade those customizations. Lets give a few examples:
1. Your barbarian can sacrifice its weapons in place of a shield.
2. Your barbarian will carry a two handed mace and gain more DPS, but sacrifice a lot of speed.
3. Your barbarian can carry two daggers and gain lots of speed, but at the loss of DPS.
You might be thinking, what if I want some to have a shield and one to have the regular sword? Well thats where barrack integration comes into play. When training barbarians, there should be a separate button on the icon for their options. You can train a few with a shield and a few with a sword just like you wanted. If we had several options for every troop, imagine how much more diversified and personalized raiding can become? Imagine is you could train archers that can fire mini rockets, but die after two shots. The game would flourish with new life and creativity.
Next is base options. And with this I introduce "Attack Elements". To help bring even more customization into your bases and more exciting attacks, i believe "Elements" should be implemented into every troop and defense. Before I begin on the Elements of your defenses, we must go back to troops. Lets say if you pick shield barbarian, you have an "Ice Element" and if you pick a mace barbarian, then you will have a fire "element". Not only should their appearances be affected by the options you chose for your comp, but it should be less/more effective against defenses with elements this will be weak/strong against troops. When you touch your town hall, you should be able to choose elemental options for your defenses. This system will work similar to the pokemon system. If your mortars are firing ice mortars at water enemies, then the water troops will freeze for a few seconds. If you have an archer tower firing fire arrows at a rock troop, then the elements will synergize for a short amount of time and create a rage spell effect (lava element), but only for a short amount of time, and can only happen once. Of course, the defenses will have different appearances too depending on their element, so now planning before you attack will be even more effective. Imagine how exciting this would be? In the heat of battle, every troop placement and split decision could effect your overall outcome, and every strategy will be different, depending on the players preferences, and it will also help all troops become viable. Also, maxed out bases will love this, because they will not be stuck with the consistent losses, attacking will not be stale and redundant, and base designing will become a lot more diverse.
