Which is better?
Spending Gems to boost collectors, or spending gems to boost army turn-around time?
These figures are all based on my current army composition of the following:
1x – Level 4 Healing Spell [27,000 elixir]
1x – Level 3 Rage Spell [20,000 elixir]
1x – Level 2 Dragon [30,000 elixir]
5x – Level 4 Giants [10,000 elixir]
3x – Level 3 Healers [24,000 elixir]
28x – Level 5 Mages [98,000 elixir]
1x – Level 4 Archer [160 elixir]
Total Housing: 200
Total Cost: 209,160 Elixir
Let’s look at the level 11 boosted vs. un-boosted collectors first:
6 Collectors un-boosted generate 432,000 Gold / Elixir in a 24 hour period
6 Collectors boosted generate 864,000 Gold / Elixir in a 24 hour period
The cost of boosting a collector is 11 Gems. So to boost all 12 collectors will net 132 Gems
Using the above army composition the turn-around time is 78 minutes. It is unrealistic to think that I will be attacking every 78 minutes on the dot. Therefore I have rounded up my attacks to every 120 minutes (or every 2 hours).
I wanted to know, is it more economical to spend gems on boosting my collectors, or to spend the gems on my Barracks / Barb King / Spell Factory to create a 4x faster turn-around time.
Here are the results:
Scenario 1:
In this scenario we spent the gems on the collectors only. The assumption is that my average attack “window” for the day time hours is roughly 8am-10pm. This gives us around 7 attacks per day (one every 2 hours). The estimation is that all of my attacks will provide at minimum 250,000 gold and 250,000 elixir, as I will skip anything that is less.
So 7 attacks per day will yield the following:
1,750,000 Gold
285,880 Elixir (when subtracting the cost for each time I build my army)
Next we need to add in the additional 864,000 Gold / Elixir gained during the day from the boosted collectors. This brings us to the following:
2,614,000 Gold
1,149,880 Elixir
132 Gems Spent
Average Gold per Gem: 19,803
Average Elixir per Gem: 8,711
Scenario 2:
In this scenario we spent the gems on boosting our Barracks / Barb King / and Spell Factory once during the 24 hour period. This boost lasts for 2 hours and cost us 60 gems in total (10 for each building, with 4 barracks). The turn-around time for our army drops significantly from 78 minutes down to 19 minutes 30 seconds. The expectation of this scenario is that during this 2 hour boosted time window we will attack every 20 minutes to maximize the gem usage for a total of 5 attacks during this time window. We will also have an additional 6 attacks during the rest of the day. Remember, in this scenario the collectors are NOT boosted.
So our total of 11 attacks during the day will yield:
2,750,000 Gold
449,240 Elixir
Now we add in the additional 432,000 Gold / Elixir gained during the day from the un-boosted collectors. This brings us up to:
3,182,000 Gold
881,240 Elixir
60 Gems Spent
Average Gold per Gem: 53,033
Average Elixir per Gem: 14,687
Scenario 3:
In this final scenario we play with the results of scenario 2 a bit, and instead of doing 1 boost on the barracks / barb king / spell factory for the day, we look at spending those extra couple of gems and doing a 2nd boosted time window. This will average 5 attacks per boosted time window, for 10 total. Plus we have an additional 5 average attacks during the day. In total this brings us to 15 attacks, with un-boosted gold and elixir collectors. Let’s look at the results.
Our total 15 attacks during the day will yield:
3,750,000 Gold
612,600 Elixir
Now we add in the additional 432,000 Gold / Elixir gained during the day from the un-boosted collectors. This brings us up to:
4,182,000 Gold
1,044,600 Elixir
120 Gems Spent
Average Gold per Gem: 34,850
Average Elixir per Gem: 8,750
In Summary
We have identified that with the above army composition you will get the most bang-for-your-buck if you spend 60 gems during a 24 hour period on boosting your barracks / barb king / spell factory. This will yield 2.6x Gold and 1.8x Elixir during the same time period than boosting your collectors. This should hold true for most army compositions, in the expectation that you are able to yield 250,000+ gold & elixir from each fight… which should be the standard for town hall level 8+.
These figures will also yield higher results in the Elixir if you are able to produce the same results with a cheaper army. This is just the standard army that I use, and have no trouble taking on any TH8, and most TH9’s.
Here is a quick look at the figures:
Boosting Collectors-
19,803 Gold per Gem | 8,711 Elixir per Gem
Boosting Army Once per Day-
53,033 Gold per Gem | 14,687 Elixir per Gem
Boosting Army Twice per Day-
34,850 Gold per Gem | 8,705 Elixir per Gem
