There's a lot to factor in:
His TH level compared to yours
How much gold and elixir you had
Whether or not your storages were full
Its normal man
its not that I got raided and lost its that I had more gold available (300k) and i had onky 2.2million gold.......butnyet i had 4 million elxier but only 296k available....why?

What the hell, you want to lose 600k elixir instead? Supercell is already nice enough to limit the amount you can lose.
could the difference be down to what was in the collectors?
more of that can be stolen at any one time.

Storages and collectors give up different amounts of loot.
Collectors always give up 50% of the loot inside them.
Storages are more protected. They yield from 20% down to 10% depending in your TH level. They also are capped to only give up a maximum, 200k at TH7 or below, +50k each TH after.
I'm guessing you were saved by your storage cap then had just a little more gold in collectors than elixir...
