You're not that bad of an early TH 8. I've seen much worse. :P
I would focus on upgrading the splash defenses first: Wizard Towers and Mortars
This really helps cut down on Tier 1 troop raids. Your walls look pretty good, but also upgrade your resources. There's no point in upgrading defenses if you have no resources to defend.
Next, you may want to start farming with BARCH. Put your TH outside and in place of that, put storage there. You'll benefit by getting free shields from trophy hunters.
