Everyone in our clan of 30ish is required to attack both times or they're booted, we also have a base claiming system during prep day. Yes there is a way to exclude member it's just silly, they have to leave the clan (or get booted) before you start your war search and then invite them back after the war starts. In order to invite them you need to be gamecenter friends with them.

There are other alternatives to gamecenter. We use WeChat - It's basically a clan chat with a persistent history and instant notifications. All the members go into a group which elders monitor. After the war has been started, a message can be put into group chat saying to come back. Each player that was removed for whatever reason can then search the clan and request to join again.

If the clan requirements are too high, they can be lowered temporarily.

It's actually become quite a useful tool for our elders and leaders to have discussions about clan rules. And for those that still want to remain mostly anonymous, the personal information (such as phone number) remain private.

Seems like a lot of work. It would be nice to have an opt out of war feature for people or clans who don't have specific war clans.

It's only a lot of work to initially set it up. After that, it's just adding or removing individuals - and we don't add people to wechat unless they've been in the clan for a little while (2+ weeks).

And it would be nice to have this feature to opt-out - would allow us to work around people when they have vacations etc., but they'll never do it since there are alternatives.
