Most people will say Gold 3, but there are too many people farming there so you will not find as many with full collectors. Around 1800 trophies is where i find the best using barch. Crystal often has better loot, but it is much harder to get.
The best trophy level is where you find the loot and can make the army to get it!
Seriously, what TH are you, what troop levels can you make, how many spaces in your camps are kind of important data points to answer you question. I farm low crystal 3 for gold and DE with loonions. I am TH 9 and have 220 spaces in camps and max troops for TH 9. For you the best trophy range is dependent on your troop level and camps.

For us 8s there does not appear to be any narrow range that works best. I roam up and down Silver to Gold and what works today may or may not work tomorrow or the next. I'm a barcher and haven't done that well with high Crystal 3 and up. Some days it just doesn't pay to raid and I take a break......
