You are right it does not address that, just the matching by defense and offense strength should not allow too many total mismatches if you are all th 10s.
Our last war was against a clan with 15 th 10's that all had infernos, and as the top player in my clan my recommended was #12. I don't mind that since I have mostly maxed troops and spells and can 2 star most th 10 bases. However my clan only has 2 th 10 players, and it is a great struggle for my th 8's and 9's to try to take on those infernos and get 2 stars.
Just think that infernos should get a little stronger weight. Since in our case it was a war with on clan having 30 infernos and we had 4.
And before anyone complains, I am not saying that all other things should be ignored. I mostly like the matching system, just think this tweak would help make more even matches for us clans in the low 20,000 trophy ranges
We just put a 150 on the board against a clan that had no business being matched with us. It's nice to be the hammer rather than the anvil for once, but it's clear the matchmaking system is broken.
lower level clan here, best ranked base via clan wars is a no longer active th9
3 th8s then 7s and 6s
we are matched up against 2 th10s and 3th9s and 3th8s
But here's the thing, I think we're going to win. They aren't spectacular 8's and 9s and they have clear weakness to air defense, so we're going to maul them with balloons.
I usually feel like the opposing clan is stronger than ours. I usually feel like its going to be tough. And we are 41 wins 9 losses 1 tie so we usually prevail. And its often very very close, we've won 10 or 20 wars by less than a handful of stars, but thats because we have a player or two thats willing to ensure the win even at cost to them.
I think considering the complexity of the system and how impatient players probably are after starting a war... that the system is absolutely remarkably well designed.
How is it a fair match up if my recommended target is #10 when I myself am #5 in my clan? (If you had this situation occur before it means that the algorithm is broken. Because idealistically you should be matched EVENLY* which means your target should be someone that is evenly matched with your rank on the team)
There were 11 people over lvl 80 (3 of which were over lvl 100) where we had only 3 (no lvl 100+).
(I know levels are not accounted for nor is trophies... so stop telling me about them I mean to just state that in terms of the levels of defenses theirs are clearly superior to ours overall)
**To clarify, this is a observation about the state/quality of the clan war matching algorithm not of what SUPERCELL SAID they accounted for. My point is that the way they accounted for it is BROKEN. NOT THAT THEY DIDN'T ACCOUNT FOR IT!
Below is supercell's response & mine for the record:
I normally wait about 5 minutes for a match and many of us start match searching before bed time... Please enhance the algorithm to search for an hour like it stated. Or provide clans with the ability to choose max wait time (ex. search for 1 hour tops *warning poor matchup possible, 2 hours *higher chance of better matchups, 5 hours *even more likely)

I feel your pain. Same thing with us. Last 4 clan wars were so mismatched it wasn't even fun. Hope this gets fixed.
Level means absolutely nothing in match making. Level means absolutely nothing as a measure of a player's skill.
If you are relying on the "Recommended target" to determine who to attack then you are attacking the wrong target. The only time I have seen where the "Recommended target" is any where near what it should be is when the target is way too weak. If you are hitting the "Recommended target" then you are not pushing yourself to do better and therefore will not improve your attack skills.
I am the clan leader of my clan. The rule in my clan is that you will use the first attack on your counterpart in rank, #1 vs #1 and so forth. The expectation is that you will get 3 star on your opponent. We go to war once a week since clan war started, we have only lost 1 war with a score of 124-111. The first few wars were painful as members were pushed to learn how to attack for 3 stars. The clan had a steep learning curve at the beginning, now we typically get over 90% of the available stars. If you don't push yourself then you will never improve your attack skills.
You're supposed to? Says who? Most times the recommended target is the weakest player without stars at your TH level. It is not your counterpart on the other team, nor is it good to use it in any way shape or form. We've never used it for anything and have never cared what it says.
