As this is my first ever post on the Supercell Forum, may I ask what are the chances of getting Gem Boxes and having obstacles such as trees and bushes? I wonder if it's a weekly kind of thing when we get a gem box. Thanks. - Lueroi

from what i know, obstacles supposedly come randomly. IF you have space (when no buildings are in the way) usually obstacles will grow

and from my experience gem boxes have been about once a week and Ive heard the same from others
Objects spawn every 8 hrs - note some players have reported object spawning being delayed due to the number of decorations you have in your base - I don't know if this has been verified.
Each object has a different chance of spawning. There certainly used to be some tables on the COC wiki site, but last time I checked the gem box wasn't part of this.
From the spawn rate and the chance of a particular object spawning it's relatively straightforward to determine the probability of a particular object spawning in a given period.
Im not sure about the spawn rate but i do know that there is a pattern in which you receive gems from obstacles, it goes as follows 6, 0, 4, 5, 1, 3, 2, 0, 0, 5, 1, 0, 3, 4, 0, 0, 5, 0, 1, 0. This does not include the 25 gems from gem boxes. This means that each obstacle gives an average of 2 gems each

Each obstacle (except gem box, I believe) has a specific spawn weight. You can have a maximum of 40 obstacles in your village at once, and if an obstacle is slated to appear within one tile of any of your buildings/decorations, it doesn't appear.
And if you're patient enough - you can force them to spawn just about anywhere you want
Obstacle will spawn every 8 hours. You can only have maxium 40 obstacles in your base. And the gem box spawn randomly.
