I need some advice on when to upgrade my th to level 8

Max everything at TH7, including walls.

Even as a maxed TH7, TH8 takes 3x times longer for me to max (this time without walls !!!)

Else, you will get bored and goto TH9 as premmie and quit.

maxing out everything is overrated. ignore all the max everything out comments. what you should consider is that TH8 is very boring. it is not much of a step up from TH7. The 6-->7 and 8-->9 gaps are more significant. therefore, you should favor spending more time maturing at TH7 and if you cut corners me more apt to spend less time at TH8

When you max your farming troop and you can raid other th 7 player, you are ready . Th 8 has a better loot than th 7.

I just upgraded when all my builders were about to go idle so basically at least all defence is maxed, walls to pink at least which should come naturally.

Max out your farming troops then upgrade your TH.
While the TH is upgrading, fill your banks to the max, so that when your TH is done, you can immediately upgrade your spell factory and laboratory, then start upgrading your troops further.
The stronger your troops, the faster you can farm the rest of your village.
