Some of your suggestions are seriously flawed and tbh I don't think adding this would help out much. You said being online doesn't give you a shield. They can't make it so you can be attacked whilst online as it cause some sort of error with the server.
This makes your entire suggestion invalid as there would be even LESS people to attack who are sitting online for as long as possible.

The first shield you get during this time would last until 12 hours after your designated sleep time unless you attacked prior to it ending. You could adjust your sleep time as you like but only can be used once per day. Shields are otherwise 3 hours duration. Attacking will not end your normal 3 hour shield as it would your sleep shield.

Sort of sounds like clan wars a bit with the attacks etc. It's an interesting concept though.
I wanted to get rid of the old trophies since they were so inflated and this was an entirely new system of rules.
My original idea was everyone entering the league would get a trophy reset to 1000.
After thinking about it some more, the best thing would be to subtract 3000 trophies from everyone entering the new league. Just edited first post.
