Yes, I'm liking the idea behind some of the changes you've made to DD. I quite like the fact that all storages are now covered by a WT and/or a HT. They still seem pretty well spread out, and not so susceptible to sniping.

I like how you placed the bottom Archer tower.

I am not sure, one has to test it out but I think the way you placed the gold storage in front of DE storage will invite attack from north-west a lot because the gold storage (in front of DE storage) will be the motivating factor.

DD was designed with a philosophy that, if a good player attacks you
    1. They can walk away with 1/3 of one resource, 2/3rd of other resource and 0 DE.
    2. If some one goes for the DE, other resources should be safe.

According to me, that was what made DD so successful. As a TH8 you won't be able to defend much against L6 troops. So you need to scare people away.

In the original design, the gold storage that you have placed in front of DE storage is behind 3 layers from all directions. This is the reason why most people choosed to attack from south-west, south-east and north-east.

With DD you wanna take as many attacks as possible from southern side of the base.

But I really like the way you have tweaked DD. Show me some logs and I will make a section in OP for your tweak

Witha ll respect to other base designers and designs, this is the most effective base that I ever utilized as a TH8. From the time I switched to it when I was upgrading to TH9 and trying so hard to save to 40k DE, I don't believe I ever lost a drop of DE (except to lightning snipes).

I think that often times, and I think having fought 80some wars with my clan and won 70, the prettiest bases don't really do very well. You look at a base, say for an example, the pokeball, and its beautiful, you can see all the parts and how theyw ork, it all makes sense, it looks optimized. And then it just gets blown to bits anyway. I can't even count how many "anti dragon" TH8s our best TH8 has flattened with dragons in clan wars. He has like 340 war hero, and practivally all of his stars have come against bases ranked higher than his. Anti hog bases are neat, but for an experienced hogger they pretty much make it easier in clan wars, because they almost invariably leave the bombs somewhere where you can trigger them. We recently lost to a clan by I think 1 star who spied on us and magically dropped heals ahead of time over all of our bombs while hogging us (our fault, we let their #2 into the clan)... They had some really good anti hog bases. They couldn't be lured, they had the old "tesla lure trap" set up, and their double giant bombs were in the core. If they posted their bases here on the forum, they wouldn't probably get good reviews. But they were probably the toughest bases we have seen in clan wars. We tried REALLY hard to beat them and only got like 40 stars (15 player clan war). I was too scared to hog their #1 and #2, so I tried balloons, failed, timed out both times with my AQ smacking their town halls, and that is how we lost.

Point: I think that non standard, not overly "perfect" bases actually work better. We have one TH9 that has never been 2 starred. Not by gowipe, not by mass drags, not by mass hogs. And its honestly just a mess. It has the basics, double giant bombs, centralized air D that cover the TH, difficult to lure castle. But overall its really just something that some guy came up with in 15 minutes based on his own war experience. Nothinga bout it seems ideal, and everytime we look at it we think we should change it, but it just keeps working, so we don't.

Dark Defendum just works, and its one of these bases. You look at it and think you could improve it by this or by that, but I nominate it as the best TH8 farming base I have ever used, period. Including my own inventions. I recently remembered when i had this, and have recommended it to my whole clan, and a couple have switched to it.

If you are TH8 and trying to save DE, I would wager this is the best base in the game.

    Thanks for using DD

Some of the things you said there is actually the reason why I had to design DD. I tried so many bases, non of them worked. They neither help me keep trophies nor protect any of my resources.

I analysed a lot of the bases and realized that its not the technicality that will defend you but a good base design should force people to attack in certain way. DD does exactly that. It forces ppl to attack in certain way, it allows you to take certain resource but not all.

To be honest, I have seen some of the my clan mates and many members in our feeder clan using DD and get surprised at how well it performs for them.

I am very thankfull to you for using it and giving such a nice review to the base.

great base, a suggestion from a long-time user

hi, first off i just wanted to say great base, i'd like to input my 2 cents before i move on to th9 if i may. i've been using this base for a while and for the most part all i got were th snipes with the occasional good defense, right now everything is maxed for me with just 3 more days until th finishes upgrading.

today i got attacked by some chinese player who got me (4 storages plus my de) with just giants/wizards/ archers /minions, no heroes - i thought it was interesting enough to share. what he did was just destroy all the buildings around the side he wanted to attack before proceeding to dump everything like shown:

I realize that I made my own modifications to this base, and that the de storage is not at the top of the core like in the original build, but regardless he destroyed everything in the core pretty simply. My suggestion is to make all the buildings hug the walls tightly so that they are in range of the point defenses (not like how it is shown on the op), otherwise it's very easy to clear a straight path to the middle of this base like this attacker did with nothing to divert troops like wizards. Keep in mind that he didn't even need his BK or AQ for this attack to get 70%, nor did he even need to clear my full cc. Less experienced attackers tend to send in giants first and wait to clear out some defenses, which is where this base shines - but to the occasional attacker who knows what he's doing i'm sure something like this could be exploited. Another thing that was interesting was that not all of the giants took the path to the middle AT but attacked through the wall to my WT and AD (as you can see above). I probably just chalk that up to the random AI.

This was just something that I thought would be helpful to share for others who plan on using this base; it otherwise has served me well and I thank you for sharing it with all of us

DD is plain genius, sir. Its flat out awesome.

Since switching to DD my clanmates that are TH8 have reported ZERO hits on the dark elixir storage. One reported a total loss of dark elixir of 26, from his drill, not his storage.

Its spectacular. It is the best.

That looks like an impressive attack. Like the way a base can work for raiding but fail miserably in clan wars. See in clan wars people have enough time to think out a strategy that they can pretty much work around any base design.

Perhaps this attacker knew about dark defendum and could plan ahead? Perhaps he/she was just particularly talented? I can say that when I was still a TH8 I never took a hit on my dark elixir storage with DD, my clanmates that are using it now can say the same. Its easily, for us, in our experience, EASILY the best TH8 design we have ever tried.
