So the general consensus should be that X-Bows are more cost effective but all should be upgraded in the long run.
The OP did well in exposing the fact and related comparison between an X-Bow and an Archer Tower. To us, it might be obvious, but I did hear some voice over prioritizing AT before. It can be a reference to new players. Maybe a moderator should move this to "new to clash" subforum.
"When you war, you make every effort to win under the rules"
I'm afraid that the OP's numbers only function in theory. The way the X-Bow works, the tower doesn't bother switching targets until its current one is totally dead, even if that means firing more bullets than needed.
As a result, for a period equal to the time it takes for a bullet to fly to the original target, the X-Bow is wasting firepower after every kill, just like an Archer Tower would. Maybe not as much firepower, but still.

Don't even bother reading anything this idiot has to say.
I'm not sure why I haven't been banned yet on account of my stupidity.
it's the overkill damage.
because in this game, no units have armor values. so given the same dps, the defense that fires at a higher frequency and higher projectile speed will have a significant impact on the effective damage output.
lv 4 xbow 80 dps @ 7.8125 shots / sec
lv 12 archer tower 86 dps @ 1 / sec.
lv 6 barbarian has 110 hp.
so to kill a lv 6 barbarian,
lv 4 xbow needs to fire 11 shots, so about 1.4 sec to kill a barbarian.
lv 12 archer needs to fire 2 shots, so about 2 sec to kill a barbarian.
not to mention the slow flying arrows from the archer tower resulting in firing an extra shot at the dead target.
so that's like 1.4 sec vs 3 sec.
Inferno towers has almost no overkill due to its instant projectile and even higher rate of fire.
But for high hp targets, like pekka, heroes, golems, the rate of fire and projectile speed play a much lesser role.
TH 10.
Whats the math on this now with the new Archer tower updates?
The necro is real lol. Don't reply to really old posts cause they are generally wrong and irrelevant because they are out of date. If you feel this is still a point worth discussing, make a new thread
The point you bring up is a good one. So I'd suggest making another thread![]()
I generally would agree on that. Reviving old posts is always a bad idea, but in this specific case, the interest is that OP will receive a notification about it and might want to come back with same calculations post-upgrade. This also will allow us to get the comparison before/after ;-)

The OP will only be notified if he subbed to the thread. And like I said, if this topic is worth discussion again now, so,one should make a new thread not continue this one. Sure use stats from this thread, but the content of the thread should be current IMO. Thats my opinion and how other forums I've been on work.
Wait wait wait :/
So this thread is just saying we should do what we have already been doing?!
