You are better of staying with dragons and pop in some minions. You would want to carry lighting spells to take out the AD and loons in your CC. Reaching champion means a lot of time spent in the game. You don't see much TH8s in champion league. There are mostly TH9+. Spent your time on the game and I don't believe it takes 1.5 hours to do the training now with the speed barracks. I am a TH7 and is currently in crystals 2 trying to get to titan, it ain't a easy job just pushing up so much league. Good Luck Pushing!
I am a th8 having defences leveled like that of a th6 and pushed from gold 1 to master 3 in 3 days. Many people told me that I wouldn't be able to do that without max th8 defence. But I think that there are th9s and 10s up there, who can wreck any th8. The strategy that I used included valkyries, wizards and pekkas with some wall breakers. It was a fantastic combo for me and I could easily 2 star th9s.. but I didn't even have the golem that time and now I'm in crystal 3 having my valks and golems upgraded to level 2.. and my polka going lvl 2... I would like to get to Champion 3 next month in my summer holidays. My army would be having 1 golem, at least 12 valks, at least 12 wizards and some wall breakers and arcs and sometimes gowipe, so I don't get bored on the way. Hope that works for me...

I'm not a big GoWiPe fan,but I had to use it myself when I was pushing to masters.From 1800-2400 trophies,I used balloonion till I reached Crystal 1,then I went with GoWiPe

it got me to 2804 trophies and usually 1-2 stars bases,three stars are nearly impossible
