When I first set up the base I was leery about the setback on the AD as well... that is, until I got attacked with balloons-it buys the AD a few more seconds to shoot down the bad guys before they move on and target the AD. It doesn't cause hogs/giants to get pulled to the core because the defensive buildings in the corners are still the closest. The way to attack this base is to drop hogs on two corners of the same side, let them work their way to the middle, then drop a second group who will go for the core because the outer defenses on the other sides are now too far away. I got 3-starred on my war base with a max TH10 army by a very skilled player doing just that.
Having the CC dead center is sweet and makes it truly un-lurable except with balloons and hogs. When you do that you have to offset the DE to one side and you will start to see people coming in heavy handed on that side to get there if you have enough worth stealing. When I realized that I decided to centralize the DE instead and pulled the CC in 1 square closer to the center so the trigger radius was within the walls. In non-lightning zap attacks I have lost 896 DE in my entire defense log going back almost 5 days, and I am usually showing >1k to attackers
I just got attacked by this army about an hour ago: 42 lvl 5 hogs, 8 lvl 6 archers, 13 lvl 6 wizards, 5 lvl 6 heal spells, BK lvl 8, AQ lvl 6. Guy destroyed 44% and got 79,554 gold and 71,073 elixir, never breached the core. On defense I had 30 archers in the CC levels 4 through 6 and a lvl 7 AQ. I guess he didn't see the exposed town hall because I got 23 trophies out of the deal!
