I lurk but don't post often on the design threads. I wanted to share my previous TH8 design though as I have now moved on to TH9. All defenses are shown as if they were not upgrading.
During my stay at TH8 I tried many different designs. Prior to this one I was using Junliang's pokeball design, but eventually needed to change as I needed 30K+ de for BK and saving up for AQ. I decided to put what I knew from my previous designs into my own.
The primary goal of this design was to protect de while at the same time offering fairly good protection for gold and not really worrying about elixir but still not just giving it away. The design held up exceptionally well. I had a few people break in and steal my de but that was up in the 1800+ T-range and required R6 troops plus BK and AQ as well as several spells. I don't think there are any TH8 designs that can hold up to that, so I was quite happy. Most attackers failed to get even a single gold bin, but many tried.
Most attacks come from the top or top right and since gold is slightly biased to the right I decided to place my mortars how they are shown instead of a perfect triangle. The other two options being both mortars in center or 2 AD in the center. Two mortars in the center makes them both vulnerable to a lucky pair of lightning and with the ADs both in the center the far mortar won't be in play as often. One thing I really liked about Junliang's pokeball was all three mortars raining down on anyone who broke in and wanted to keep my mortars fairly close and central for that reason.
The top and bottom pockets serve to hold upgrading defenses to bait giants for the springtraps. I had at least 1 AD continually upgrading the entire duration of this design, but if you have all three up just put the 3rd where you have a missing defense that is upgrading.
Many fellow clan mates have also tested and verified the strength of the design. I wish anyone the best of luck who decides to give this a go. It worked really well for myself at the later stages of TH8.
