Exclamation Name and Shame is Never Allowed and Other Forum Don'ts

    >> READ OUR FORUM RULES <<

    BE NICE, DON'T BE TOXIC!

    Hi all,

We added a new Forum Rule the other day, which I think everyone should be aware of:

Toxic behaviour can rear its ugly head in many ways, but here are a few things that we would consider to be toxic:

    - Insulting other people or their views
    - Intentionally derailing a thread with off-topic or negative comments
    - Being a jerk, repeatedly (we're all human and have our bad days, but if every day is a bad day, we might have a problem!)

First of all, let me be super clear: This is not a rule to prevent complaints, concerns, opposing or negative views. The intention of this rule is to try and make our forums a nicer place for everyone.

In my opinion, it is entirely possible to have a meaningful discussion, full of opposing opinions, without ever having to be nasty to one another.

So please, by all means, keep bringing up your concerns about Hay Day or the pain points you're hitting - this is a big part of why the forums exist and also why we value them so highly - the other part being to collect and foster an awesome community of like-minded gamers!

By the way, "Staff members" means only people with [Supercell] after their name or this badge:

    -Tim

    TL;DR - Don't be a jerk and we'll get along just fine!

Name and Shame is Never Allowed

I must, of necessity, begin by repeating that this forum has a NO name and shame policy under ANY circumstances. While the majority of this post uses trading mishaps as an examples of why this policy exists, this rule applies to ALL and ANY situations where there may be bad feelings. The No name and shame policy goes for every aspect of this forum.

As an example, lets begin with trading as that is probably the most prolific area of Hay Day where the name and shame rules is broken. It is my hope that the following will help attain a firm understanding for those of you who don't know the origins of trading and to remind those of you who do but may have forgotten.

Trading is not a designed feature of the game. It was something that a few forum members discovered they could do a long time ago. Some of them got together and created standardized "guidelines/rules" so those who joined them in taking advantage of this discovery could all benefit from doing things the same way.

Word spread and after a while, one of those who regularly benefited from this discovered method, decided to create the trading threads so as to keep the increasing requests/offers all in one place and easier to see for those others who used this unofficial means.

On the very first page of each of those threads, the authors made sure to very clearly state that trading is an unofficial feature and that every trade has the possibility to go wrong or be scammed. They go on to state that each partner enters into every trade with full knowledge of these risks and takes full responsibility no matter how the trade pans out.

SC has thoughtfully allowed these trading threads to stay open and active so far as a kindness to us, their forum members. Doing so does NOT denote support of trading in any way. However, if these threads continue to get accusatory posts as has been seen more frequently lately along with the demands for SC to take responsibility for something that isn't their product design, then the future of those threads is uncertain, I'm afraid.

As frustrating and unfair as being scammed is, it's a risk each of us who enters into a trade agrees to in advance. Nothing can be done if it goes wrong other than to take the first step and try to arrange some sort of settlement with our trading partner through the forum's Private Messaging system or NH Chat (which are both to REMAIN private). If this is unsuccessful, the next step is to try one's best to watch for similar signs to prevent being a victim in future, shake it off as a rough lesson learned, and move on. I'm sorry that I have to tell this to everyone who has been scammed...it's a bitter pill to swallow, but that's the way of it, I'm afraid.

This Forum's No Name and Shame policy is standard on just about every forum one will ever visit and protects the innocents who get accused falsely or publicly attacked for whatever reason. For every real scammer accused on our particular forum, several dozen innocents are also accused and have their reputations permanently ruined before they are able to prove themselves innocent. While the desire to warn others away from a similar experience is compassionate and honorable, acting on that desire does way, way more harm than good.

SC has no plans for the foreseeable future to incorporate trading as part of the game since trading on a scale of millions of players would completely undermine the balance of the game. So, whether we like it or not, in this we're on our own...both in making a trade and in dealing with the consequences. This is the way of it for us to understand and accept no matter how much one may disagree with it.

Please understand that we each are free to post our support to those who've been victims, share tips on how to avoid disreputable elements, tips on how to trade with the greatest ease and success, our feelings regarding trades gone wrong, and any number of related aspects.

However, I must also inform everyone that future accusatory posts, which name specific parties, that appear on the trading threads, or any other topic threads, will not only be removed but infractions may be given against those accounts posting the accusation. Whether it's true or not, it's a violation of the Forum Rules and is just not acceptable.

Please read Kolonistje1's additional details on this issue here: http://forum.supercell.net/showthrea...eeting-its-end

To make things even more clear regarding name and shame and calling out posts, as the introductory sentence to this post states: NO Name and Shame Under ANY Circumstances. That includes Neighborhood Drama or any other situation. ANY Circumstances.

Why Don't Moderators Do Something About People in the Game?

Please know that Forum Moderators can only enforce the Forum Rules and the TOS as they pertain to the Forums. They have no jurisdiction within the Games. The Forum Rules pertain only to the Forums while The Terms of Service relates to both the Games and the Forum equally. While the Games and Forums are linked, they are separate entities. What a player does in the games has no bearing on their Forum account (with the exception of Forum Rule #15), nor does their Forum activity have any bearing on their games.

For example, Mods cannot take action against someone who is clan/NH hopping or who’s repeatedly buying from an RSS as those are game actions, plus neither is against the gaming rules nor TOS even if Moderators did have jurisdiction. SC Staff have jurisdiction over both the Forums and the Games, but they also will not take action against someone in the games unless a rule is actually broken. How you think the game should be played doesn't change this.

If someone breaks a game rule (and make sure they are breaking one first), collect proof through screenshots and place an in-game Report a Problem ticket so Support can handle it. Don't break the Forum Rules by posting such info on the forums. If someone breaks a forum rule (again, please make sure they are breaking one first), report it by tapping on the small triangle at the lower left of their offending post and a Moderator will handle the situation. Please note that you will most likely not see what, if any action has been taken, as that is between the Moderation Team and the player in question, so it cannot be assumed that no action was taken simply because none is visible.

This is a Forum that belongs, not to us players or to a democracy, but to SuperCell, which they host as a favor to all of us players so we have a place to discuss the games and find help with issues. If this forum were run by a group of players rather than SC, as many gaming forums are, members would accept that the Mods are unable to take action against what a player does within the game itself. The fact that SC is the one who chooses to grant us this Forum makes no difference in the Moderation Team's responsibilities or limits.
