    Hello and welcome!


    Congratulations on your new membership at Supercell Community Forums! This is a wonderful, diverse community where you’ll find lots of spirited discussion, advice, and other content for Boom Beach, Brawl Stars, Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and Hay Day.

    This is the ULTIMATE COMPLETE COMPREHENSIVE FORUM USER MANUAL. This is the Forum Encyclopedia- you’ll find anything and everything there is to know about the forums here, as well as step by step tutorials with pictures for how to do things. If you don’t need a full, in- depth tutorial, there are crash- course sections at the beginning of each segment. Each crash- course walkthrough is usually five steps, no pictures, and is short and sweet. You’ll be able to find every section in the Table of Contents, located at the end of this section. Each section is a general topic, and contains information and tutorials for all of the smaller topics that fit within that main section. If you are unsure about where to find something or unable to find information, see the index in the back of the manual, or contact one of the support members listed in the back of the manual. Anything that doesn’t fit into a certain segment can either be found in the appendix or in section 12.

    In this section we'll get you started on the forums, beginning with a short description of the forums and then a forum quick start guide. This section will be split up into three major parts: The introduction, the quick start guide, and the table of contents. Each segment of this section is clearly marked by red bolded words, and is set in large type.

    Firstly, what are forums? If you’ve never been on game forums before, you should read this over. First, let’s go technical. Forums derive from the Latin word forum. The forum was a central meeting place- like the town center, or the main square in a city.

    Today, game forums are a place where people who share a common interest in a game (Or multiple games, as the case may be) can come together on the internet and discuss said game(s). Forums are fun because they allow people to interact with others who enjoy the same things that you do- like games or hobbies. There are forums for all sorts of things, not just games. You can find online forums for everything ranging from Do It Yourself auto-repair to household pets to flying RC! Forums are a big mass of community and discussion that all relates to a central topic.

    In this case, Supercell forums are a community center for everyone who plays one or more of Supercell’s three games. Here, you’ll find discussions about the game, questions about the game, and even ideas or suggestions for how to make a game better- everything gets discussed.

    However, the forums still have some rules that you have to follow- it’s not just all fun and games. Read the quick start guide later on in this section for some good advice on how to get your forum career off to a good start, or look in the Table of Contents to find information on a specific topic.

    TABLE OF CONTENTS:

    The table of contents contains hyperlinks to all 15 sections of the User Manual. The sections are split up into major groups, which contain specific information for each section. Clicking on each section, or clicking on the description of each section, will take you to that specific section. This is called hyperlinking. Learn more about hyperlinking in sections four and nine. Some sections may contain subsections, which each have their own hyperlink.

    CLICKING ON THE TITLE/DESCRIPTION FOR EACH SECTION WILL TAKE YOU TO THAT SPECIFIC SECTION.

    SECTION 1: Section one has just walked you through what the forums are and feature a forum quick start guide below the Table of Contents.

    SECTION 2: Section two goes over forum rules and the Terms of Service, explaining what they are and why they are in place, as well as what the incursions can be.

    SECTION 3: Section three goes over all the supercell games and their respective sub-forums. This section has 3 main segments, which cover each of supercell’s games and give a brief description of all of them, their community on the forums, and what each of their respective sub-forums are for.

    SECTION 4: Section four covers posts and posting, as well as tips and tricks for posting. This section includes cC tUtOrIaLs.

    SECTION 5: Section 5 covers threads: Types of threads, creating threads, and how to make detailed, high- quality threads, as well as explaining and going over thread tools. This section includes cC tUtOrIaLs.

    SECTION 6: Section six will go over your account and user profile. This section will provide walkthroughs for your forum account settings, customizing your profile, and more. This section includes cC tUtOrIaLs.

    SECTION 7: Section seven is all about interacting! Here you’ll be able to learn how to interact, talk to, and make friends with other members, and learn basic forum socialization skills. Don’t worry- we’re here to make friends.

    SECTION 8: This section covers communicating with other members, and goes over Private Messages, Visitor Messages, and settings for both. This section includes cC tUtOrIaLs.

    SECTION 9: This section covers forum leaders, and goes over who they are, as well as what they do on the forums. We’ll walk you through moderators, forum administrators, and community managers.

    SECTION 10: This section covers forum groups. We’ll give you an overview of what groups are, their purpose, and how to create and join groups.

    QUICK- START GUIDE:


    Your five minute jump-start to the forums! The quick start guide will walk you through basic forum navigation, posting, and creating threads. This is not designed to be a fully detailed section, but a good tutorial to help get you started on the forums.

    This quick-start guide will cover all of the basics that you need to know for a good start to your forum career. The first thing you need to know is obvious; the forum rules.

    You can look over the forum rules more in section 3, but just be smart: Read the rules and follow them. It doesn’t take long and knowing the rules can keep you from getting an infraction later on
    or even a ban, which you won’t want.

    Next we’ll show you the basics of working the forums: how to navigate them, find what you need, and read threads. To go to a certain game, simply click on the game in the forum main screen. Note that the discussion forums for Brawl Stars and Clash Royale have been located off-site to a separate discussion subReddit. There is no account association between these forums and the subReddit used for discussion of these games.


    Let’s say you wanted to go to Hay Day.




    After clicking on game forums you wish to view, you can view any of the sub forums for a certain game.

    Simply click on the sub forum you want to go to.





    You’ll see threads at the top of each sub- forum that are tinted orange. These threads are called stickies.






    Stickies contain important information about the subforum you’re in, and often feature rules or guidelines that must be followed. In the Clash of Clans and Boom Beach Ideas and Feature Requests subforums, the stickies have a list of ruled- out ideas. Posting these ideas can result in your thread being locked and deleted. It is assumed that members posting in a given sub forum have read and understood the rules as outlined in the stickied threads, and this assumption may be reflected in any disciplinary action taken by a forum administrator or moderator.


    Now, to view a thread, simply click on the title of the thread you want to view and it will direct you there.





    Always read a thread thoroughly before posting in it. Always try to be positive and constructive when posting. When you’ve posted on a thread, a little green arrow will appear in the letter icon next to the thread itself, indicating that you’ve posted in it. The arrow will also appear if you created the thread yourself.





    In order to reply to a thread, click on the green ‘Reply to thread’ button at the top or bottom of the thread.





    The ‘Reply to Thread’ button is very similar to the ‘Create a Thread’ button, which can be found at the top and bottom of each subforum. When making a thread, give it a creative title, make sure you have a good subject to make the thread about, and explain your topic. In addition to the 'Reply to Thread' button, you can also use the quick-reply text box found at the bottom of the thread to quickly enter and post a reply to a thread. Forum Rules apply to all replies posted, and regardless of whether or not you reply using the 'Reply to Thread' button or the quick-reply button, your reply can be edited.


    When you want to return to the forum main screen, you can either click the icon in the top left- hand corner, which will direct you back to the forum main page,





    Or you can use the links above the ‘create a thread’ or ‘reply to thread’ icon. These strings of links are known as breadcrumbs, and hyperlink back to the broader forum that contains the forum or thread your were viewing.





    The breadcrumbs appear wherever you are on the forums (Except on the forum main page) and you can use them to retrace all of your steps. If you want to return to the game page instead of the main forum page, simply click on the ‘Hay Day’ link in the breadcrumbs.


    If you want to search for a specific topic, use the search bar at the top. This is especially helpful when you think of an idea- as someone has probably thought of it before, and you can use the search tool to find it.

    The search bar is up in the top right- hand corner of the screen, wherever you are on the forums. There will be a more in- depth explanation on using the search bar in sections 12 and 14. Forum member Zombiemember has also compiled an in-depth guide to using the search function. His thread can be found HERE.





    When searching for a topic, simply type in a keyword and click search, then look through the results to see if you found what you need. You may need to perform multiple searches with different keywords to find the topic or thread you are looking for.





    We hope this quick- start guide helped get your forum career off to a good start! Remember to read the forum rules, keep an eye out for the stickies, and have fun on the forums! If you ever need help on a forum topic, advice, or a walkthrough on the forums, the Forum User Manual will likely contain everything that you’re looking for and more!

    FORUM RULES AND TERMS OF SERVICE.

    Here we will talk about the forum rules and give an in- depth explanation of them. We will also go through the main points from the Supercell Terms of Service. You should be aware of the Terms of Service, as well as the forum rules, and obey them at all times. This section will cover three main segments- the forum rules, the supercell terms of service, and penalties for breaking the forum rules. Each of these is marked with red bolded text that is enlarged. Let’s start with the forum rules.


    FORUM RULES

    The forum rules are something every member MUST read before posting. If you fail to read and follow them you risk your account getting infracted or even banned.

    A moderator of the forums has made an in-depth thread about the forum rules and given explanations for them. You can view that thread by clicking here.


    TERMS OF SERVICE

    You can view the ToS by Clicking Here.

    You should read the entire ToS. We will just be addressing the main parts to reinforce the primary points and clear up any confusion. The terms of service is an agreement between You and Supercell, that lay down rules you must follow in order to be able to play the game. If you violate any part of the ToS Supercell has the ability the ban your account forever, but the Terms Of Service is enforced at their discretion.

    1) Playing on 3rd Party Emulators is NOT allowed. This means bluest@cks or anything else like that. If you chose to ignore this your account may get banned, or even h@cked!

    You agree that you will not, under any circumstances:

    • Use or take part (directly or indirectly) in the use of cheats, exploits, automation software, bots, hacks, mods or any unauthorized third-party software designed to modify or interfere with the Service, any Supercell game or any Supercell game experience.
    2) Having multiple accounts is not allowed but this rule is only enforced if you use the accounts to che@t. Having accounts for the sake of having fun is OK, otherwise some of these famous YouTubers would be in a bad spot. You cannot sell your account or buy accounts. This is, 99% of the time, a scam which ends in a loss of money! You are not allowed to create accounts on someone else’s behalf. The account you make must be yours.

    2.1) The Supercell ToS state that to have a forum account or an account on any supercell services you must be at least 13 years of age.

    The following restrictions apply to the use of the Service:

    • You shall not create an Account or access the Service if you are under the age of 13; You shall restrict use by minors, and you will deny access to children under the age of 13. You accept full responsibility for any unauthorized use of the Service by minors. You are responsible for any use of your credit card or other payment instrument (e.g. paypal) by minors.
    • You shall not have more than one Account at any given time, sell or give away your Account, create an Account using a false identity or information, or on behalf of someone other than yourself; You shall not use the Service if you have previously been removed by Supercell, or previously been banned from playing any Supercell game;.

    PUNISHMENTS

    So we’ve seen what the forum rules and terms of service are, but what are the punishments for breaking these rules? In this segment we’ll look at the punishments both on the forums and in the game for breaking the guidelines and rules we’ve outlined. The punishment system on the forums works in points and bans. After a certain number of points, you will be banned from the forums.

    WARNINGS

    Warnings are the lowest- weight of any punishment on the forums, but that isn’t to say they shouldn’t be taken seriously. You will receive a warning if you have violated a forum rule, but a warning is not as serious as an infraction. Warnings do not add punishment points to your total. When you receive a warning, a note will appear in the infraction tab of your member profile, looking like this:





    Warnings are colored yellow, and do not carry a point value, as mentioned before.


    INFRACTIONS

    Infractions are the standard form of punishment. If you break a forum rule (i.e. insult a member), you are likely to be given an infraction. Infractions are more serious than warnings, and do carry a point value, which is added to your punishment point total. After a certain number of infractions, the points will add up to a ban from the forums (Usually temporary). When you receive an infraction, a note will appear in the infraction tab of your member profile, looking like this:




    Infractions are colored red, and usually carry a point value of 1. The total number of points you have accumulated will be displayed in your profile’s infraction tab. The above image shows a forum member who has one point.


    FORUM BANS

    If you have broken a major forum rule or made multiple accounts, your account will be banned from the forums. When you are banned, you receive a message similar to this:



    And you are unable to post or view the forums on your account. Bans can last as little as twenty- four hours and can be as long as forever, depending on the severity of the offence and the number of bans/infractions you have received in the past. While you may think it easy to simply create another forum account and go again if you are banned, this is also against the forum rules, and can lead to a permanent ban on your IP address, meaning that any account you log in as on your computer or device will never be able to access the forums.


    If you break a minor forum rule you will get a ban message like this:

    The lift date will vary on the severity of the violation.

    Any further accounts you make will be banned as well.

    From our experience, you are likely to be banned immediately, without any warnings or infractions, for doing any of the following:

    Posting obscene, vulgar, or sexually explicit content on the forums.
    Repeatedly threatening or harassing members.
    Repeatedly posting free diamond/gem or other third- party advertisements.
    Creating multiple accounts

    3 infractions/points will result in a temporary ban. We believe there are a couple more automatic bans before a permanent one.

    IN GAME BANS

    According to the terms of service, you can be banned indefinitely in- game for violating any of the conditions outlined in the ToS. However, the ToS is enforced at Supercell’s discretion. Players are often banned from a game for the following reasons:

    Using an emulator or malicious software to manipulate the service.
    Using offensive language in- game.
    Having an offensive game username.
    Using offensive language in neighborhood/clan chat.
    Repeatedly harassing or insulting other game users.

    Supercell reserves the right to terminate your access to the service, and can ban you indefinitely for violating the Terms of Service.

    SUPERCELL’S GAMES


    In this section we’ll look at the games that are discussed on the forums. There are three segments in this section, representing the three games developed by Supercell as well as a fourth segment which talks about where to post. Each segment will contain what the games are about, the basic premise, an overview of each game, and how to fit in to each game’s forum community.

    Each game has it’s own set of Sub-Forums. Sub-forums categorize each section of discussion for each game. Be sure to always post in the right subforum- if it’s generic talk about the game, it goes in the “General” sub-forum. If it’s an idea, it goes in the “Ideas and Requests” sub-forum, etc.

    Please note that Brawl Stars and Clash Royale, Supercell's latest game releases, are discussed on an independently moderated and off-site subReddit. No content discussion concerning these games is discussed on these forums. The game titles that can be seen from the main forum landing page hyperlink directly to that game's subReddit, where all discussion should occur. Please ensure that you discuss content for each game in the appropriate game forum and sub-forum for the discussion topic.

    Also note that as of 12/11/2017, all 'Forum Talk' sub-forums found in each individual game's Off-Topic sub-forum redirects to the single forum-wide 'Forum Talk' subforum and is viewed and posted in by forum members of all three games.


    HAY DAY

    Description:
    Hay Day is a totally new farming experience with smooth gestural controls lovingly handcrafted for your iPad or iPhone.
    Get back to nature and experience the peaceful, simple life of working the land and rearing chickens, pigs, cows and sheep.

    Make a name for yourself by harvesting crops and building bakeries, sugar mills and dairies that turn your fresh produce into wholesome goods you can trade with your friends at your very own Farmer's Market.

    Type of Game:
    Hay Day has varying levels of activity. In the very beginning, crops, your main source of income, grow rather fast and you can spend hours online non-stop harvesting and improving your farm. However, as the game gets further along and you unlock more levels, the type of crops, animal, and wait times will become more varied. You may find yourself waiting 6 hours or more for a single plant to grow, but there are many things to do if you chose to remain online.

    Hay Day is an interactive game, and you can trade with other players, as well as group together with other players in a neighborhood. You can choose to complete challenges and tasks to gain experience and money.

    Editor's Assessment:

    The Hay Day forum community is serious and mature. The demographic of Hay-Day players tend to be older than those of Boom Beach and Clash of Clans. Games such as Clash of Clans and Boom Beach have a wider target market, and so have a wider maturity and tolerance range. In Hay Day you should be serious- joking and tomfoolery is a strict no- no, and you may find yourself infracted quickly or corrected by other members for acting out of line in the Hay Day forum.




    CLASH OF CLANS


    Description:
    Clash of Clans is an epic combat strategy game. Build your village, train your troops and battle with millions of other players online!

    Clash of Clans is an addictive mixture of strategic planning and competitive fast-paced combats. Raise an army of Barbarians, Wizards, Dragons and other mighty fighters. Join a clan of players and rise through the ranks, or create your own Clan to contest ownership of the Realm. Driving back the goblins is just the first step - your quest isn't over until your clan reigns supreme over all others!

    Type of Game:
    Depending on how you chose to play the game, Clash of Clans can be fast or slow paced. You can either go hardcore and spend hours a day playing and having fun or you can take the the calmer approach. At the start of the game you need to get raiding and getting loot. Farming is key to collecting resources without caring about trophies, while trophy pushing requires plenty of resources and a good base design to attack and gain trophies to get into higher leagues.

    Editor's Assessment:

    Clash of Clans has a much more laid back forum community, which, while hectic, is much more tolerant of jokes and fooling around than the other game forums. You should feel free to joke around and have some fun, but remember to keep yourself within safe limits of the forum rules. As Clash of Clans is by far the most active, there is a fine line between being funny and being a nuisance. In general, moderator time is spent most frequently in Clash of Clans and as such line-crossing behavior is more likely to be scrutinized, even if not reported. You should always strive to not only stay within the forum rules, but to allow your personality and sense of humor contribute to your constructive attitude on the forums.


    BOOM BEACH

    Description:
    Storm the beach and win the day! Boom Beach is a combat strategy game where you fight an epic war against the evil Blackguard. Take your expeditionary force to beautiful paradise islands invaded by the enemy. Fight for every beachhead, free enslaved islanders and explore the uncharted archipelago. The fight becomes a race to harness the ancient powers hidden on the islands. Are you ready for the BOOM?

    Type of Game:
    Boom beach is a game that has similar style to Clash of Clans but has many different aspects. In Boom Beach you only get ONE builder while in Clash you get a maximum of 5, however the build times in Boom Beach are nothing compared to Clash. In Boom Beach you keep your surviving troops which is a big gain. If you like Clash you should definitely give Boom Beach a go, it is easy to get used to and there isn’t much of a difference in playing style. Due to the lower waiting times you should be able to progress quite quickly if you have good raiding skills and are on quite a lot.

    Editor's Assessment:

    While the Boom Beach forum does not yet attract enough traffic to discern a specific modus operandi, it is like clash in its mainstream operation. Desiring Boom Beach's forums to be orderly and not as rambunctious as the clash forums have become on occasion, moderators have and will be more strict in enforcing minor rule violations. On a portrayed maturity scale, Boom Beach should fall between Clash of Clans and Hay Day.

    POSTING FOR CERTAIN GAMES

    When you make a post for a certain game, make sure to do so in the games appropriate subforum. Please remember that the ‘Supercell Main’ part of the forum is not for games, but for official supercell announcements, rules and forum suggestions. that are relevant to all areas of the forum.





    Please do not post game- related topics in the boxed sub-forums. These are official sub-forums for all of the forums, and posting specific game topics there will only make your thread less- noticed than it would were it posted in the correct sub-forum.


    If making a thread with an idea for Clash of Clans, post it in the Clash of Clans Ideas and Feature Requests subforum, not another game’s subforum or a supercell main subforum.

    If making a thread with an idea for Hay Day, post it in the Hay Day Ideas and Feature Requests subforum, not another game’s subforum or a supercell main subforum.

    If making a thread with an idea for Boom Beach, post it in the Boom Beach Ideas and Feature Requests subforum, not another game’s subforum or a supercell main subforum.

    Posting in the right game and in the right subforum will ensure that your post is seen and given proper attention. Posting in the wrong subforum can result in your thread being moved or even closed.

    We’ll go more in- depth about posting in the next section. We’ve covered all of the games that are discussed on these forums, what their premise is, their community, and the kind of game that they are. Choose which one is right for you, or choose them all! Whichever game you choose to become involved in, play, and interact with the community about, you’ll have a great time!

    HOW TO POST, POSTING IN EACH SUBFORUM, AND GOOD TIPS.

    In this section we’ll walk you through the posting process, posting in each of the sub-forums, how to make your posts detailed, and posting tricks, as well as using posting tools. This section will be split up into three segments: How to post, posting tools, and posting tricks. Each segment will be identified by red bold and enlarged text.

    HOW TO POST

    To make a post, first chose a thread that you want to reply to and then press the “Reply to Thread” button.




    Threads that you can’t reply to will say “Closed”, and will display an envelope with a lock sign over it in the subforum view. Here is an example of a locked thread:





    Replying to a thread is easy enough, but you really want to focus on what you put in your reply. What you post makes a difference, and what you put in your posts is always more important than the number of posts you have. REMEMBER: Quality NOT Quantity.
    So when you’re typing your reply, make sure that you keep these guidelines in mind:


    • Is your post relevant to the topic being discussed in the thread?
    • Is your post necessary?
    • Does your post follow forum rules?
    • Is this helpful to the Original Poster (OP) of the thread?
    • Does your post contribute to the thread?
    • Does your post contain thoughtful, helpful, and constructive content?
    • Is your post respectful towards everyone and not derogatory in any way?
    • Does your post focus on the subject of the thread, and not the OP or the way the topic is being presented?


    All of these points, especially the last one, are crucial to making a good, well rounded post that contributes to the community and gives meaning to the thread. You will be judged by how you post, not by post count or having a cool avatar. The most important thing to remember is to stay on topic- post comments that are relevant to the thread. Remember- you are discussing the main topic of the thread. Not the person who posted the thread or the way they’re presenting it. For posting advice, see ‘Posting Tips’ in the third segment of this section.

    POSTING TOOLS

    There are many tools that you can use when posting. When you are writing a post, you will notice that there is a toolbar at the top of the text editor.




    Each tool will be listed with a description of its purpose and an image.




    We’ll show you how to use each of these tools. This tutorial can also be found in the ‘Thread tools’ segment of section 5.





    1. When posting, you can choose to enter a title to customize your post. On threads, you are required to enter a title when posting.

    2. This will paste everything that you have copied as ‘plain text’. This means that things like email addresses, phone numbers, or URLs that you have copied will be pasted with no links attached to them- plain text.

    3.This allows you to paste into the text editor using microsoft word. Simply copy what you want from your word document, and paste it into the text box that appears when you click on the tool.

    4. This lets you change the font, or look, of the text when you’re typing. Experiment with different types of font to see which one you like. In order to change the font of something you’ve already typed, select the desired text and change the font:

    This allows you to change the size of the font. The sizes in the text editor range from 1-7, with the default size being 2. You cannot surpass the size limit by posting from microsoft word in, say, 70 size type. Once you make your post, the text size, and often the formatting, will be reset if you have copy/pasted from another source (i.e. google drive, microsoft word). If you want to change the size of pre-existing text, select the desired text and change the size:





    6.
    This allows you to change the color of the text you’re typing. You can either set the color you want to type in before you start typing, or select and color certain areas of text. We recommend not using colored text for everything you write, as it is time consuming and can also be annoying to others.

    7. This allows you to insert emojis, also known as smilies, into the text editor. You can do this by using the toolbar, clicking on one of the smilies on the side of the editor, or typing a BB smiley code into the text editor. See section 12 for more information on BB coding. If you are typing smilies in BB code, make sure that setting 19 is not selected, or checked. Here is an example of a BB code smiley:






    8.
    This allows you to put attachments into your post, and to undo or redo the attachment that you’re put in. However, you have a limited amount of space for attachments, so we recommend that you use Tinypic to upload pictures into your posts. See more about tinypic image uploading in section 12.

    9. Click here to delete the formatting of all selected text. This will take away any indents, paragraph organization, font size, color etc.

    10. A few formatting options, B means bold, I means italic and U means Underline.

    11. This line contains all the tools you will need when making a table.

    12. Align text left,right or center.

    13. Make a list in numbers of bullet points. You also have the indent left and right buttons which when pressed give you an indent.

    14. 14 contains the tools for hyper-linking and inserting movies/images.

    15. This is the quote option which puts text/images etc in a quote box.

    16. By selecting one of these icons your thread title will have the chosen icon before the title of the thread.

    Links like www.google.com will automatically become a clickable link if this is checked.

    POSTING TIPS

    Now we’re going to give you some tips to use when posting. These tips will help you to make meaningful, colorful, and descriptive posts that contributes to the conversation. We’ll show you a few examples of meaningful and well-thought out posts/threads, as well as recognizing non-helpful posts. We’ll also show you how to streamline your post using hyperlinks and other posting tools mentioned in the section above.

    Posting will take up the majority of your time on the forums. As a result, you need to know how to post in a good way. We’ve already given you good posting guidelines in the first segment, but now we’re going to show you some examples, as well as more things that you can do to ensure that your post will make a contribution.


    • Have a unique posting style: Posting with a unique style will allow you to be noticed. Your posts don’t necessarily have to be long or contain funny meme pictures, but you’ll create a posting style that’s unique to YOU, which will make you, as a member, stand out.
    • Make your posts stand out: Make your posts stand out by using a certain format, signature, or, as mentioned above, posting style. Sometimes making your posts stand out may not always be the right choice, but it’s certainly a way to let people see you’re contributing to the conversation. Some people choose to make their posts stand out by using pictures in every post, posting in poem format, or using another ‘signature’ posting style. Some members use colored text, however, this can irritate some members and is also time- consuming, so we recommend you not use colored text.
    • Post with a purpose: Always post with a purpose in mind. A better term for this is ‘Quality above Quantity,’ meaning you should always hold the content of your posts above the number of posts you have. Posting just for the sake of increasing your post count can be considered spamming, as you likely aren’t posting in a way that contributes to the conversation. An example of NOT posting with a purpose is members who post ‘LOL first 10chars.’
    • Always think about what you’re posting: Think about your post- does it follow the guidelines we gave you in the first segment? Your post should always be detailed, and relevant to the topic of the thread. It’s especially important when you’re making a thread that your thread is relevant to the subforum that you’re posting it in.

    Types of threads, creating threads, and how to make detailed, high- quality threads.


    In this section we will discuss everything you need to know about threads. It will be split into three segments, the basics of threads, types of threads, and tools and tricks for making better threads. By the end of this section, you will be a thread making master! Each segment is clearly marked with red bold and enlargedtext.

    CrAsH cOuRsE: Creating a Thread
    1. Enter the thread text editor via the ‘Create a Thread’ button on the sub-forum main page.
    2. Using proper capitalization and paragraphing, explain your idea, topic, or subject in moderate detail.
    3. Read the text you have entered and ensure that your thread will not violate forum rules and appropriately represents your topic to an outside reader.
    4. Click the ‘Submit New Thread’ button. Do not bump your thread or create duplicates if there are no replies.

    THREAD BASICS
    So it’s your first ever time creating a thread. To create a thread, you need to click on the ‘Create A Thread’ button, at the top or bottom of any subforum. The button is green:


    When you click on the ‘Create A Thread’ button, you will be taken to a screen looking like this:

    In order to be able to submit your thread, you need to give it a title, as well as at least 10 characters of text. Here are some things to keep in mind when making your thread:

    • Did you read the stickies, and does your thread conform to them?
    • Is your thread relevant to the topic being discussed in the subforum you’re posting the thread in?
    • Does your thread follow the forum rules?


    A ‘yes’ answer to all of these guidelines is always good when creating a thread, especially as a new member. Here are a few tips for posting:


    • Make your thread detailed! Making a detailed thread will allow people to understand the idea you’re trying to get across, and help prevent any confusion. EDITOR’S TIP: Some members can be angry if threads contain little or no details, either because they can’t understand the point of the thread or don’t get the point you’re trying to make. It’s important to provide details and explanations to avoid confusion or arguments ensuing from lack of content.
    • Post with a creative title! Giving your thread a unique, creative, and catchy title will make it stand out from the other threads, and help it be noticed. EDITOR’S TIP: A creative title will get more members interested in posting on your thread. This reduces the temptation to bump your thread, which is against forum rules. Posting with a creative title attracts posters, so you don’t feel tempted to bump!
    • Make the thread itself unique! Posting the same thing as several other threads is boring for other members, repetitive, and can be considered spam. Post about something that’s unique and new, something that hasn’t been discussed before or currently isn’t being discussed.


    These tips are great for posters new and experienced alike! Always remember to follow the forum rules, and keep these tips in mind. The ‘Editor’s Advice’ segment of section 14 contains more tips and tricks on posting from the makers of this guide.

    Once you’ve typed what you want to be in your thread, click on the ‘Submit New Thread’ button in the bottom right- hand corner of the page.

    That covers all of the thread basics. As you probably noticed, there are plenty more options, settings, and tools for creating a thread. Thread tools, as well as more tips, will be covered in the last segment of this section.

    TYPES OF THREADS

    There are many types of threads you will see when scrolling through the forums. You

    You can learn information from a thread, without even accessing, it by looking at this logo. The below table shows what each logo represents.




    The ‘Poll’ symbol and word means that thread contains a poll. Learn more about polls in the next segment.

    You may find that you cannot find a thread that you may have commented on, searched for, or that a thread you have clicked on a link to displays a message like this:


    This message means that specific thread has been deleted by a moderator or administrator. This message may also be displayed if your forum privileges have been restricted., or if your forum account has still not yet been registered.

    THREAD TOOLS AND TRICKS

    1. Enter the text editor via the ‘Create a Thread’ or ‘Reply to Thread’ button.
    2. Type a word or phrase, and then double click on the word or phrase to highlight/select it.
    3. Click on the earth in chains icon, and enter the URL you want to link with the selected text into the URL box.
    4. Click the ‘OK’ button.

    CrAsH cOuRsE: Creating a table
    1. Enter the text editor via the ‘Create a Thread’ or the ‘Reply to Thread’ button.
    2. Click on the icon that looks like a graph, under the bold text button.
    3. Enter the dimensions you want for your table. (Columns are side by side, rows are up and down), and select the border.
    4. Click the ‘OK’ button to insert the table into the text editor.

    In the first segment you saw all of those cool buttons and settings you could use when making a thread- here we’re going to explain to you what each one does, and how to use it. Due to the length and complexity of this segment, it will be split up into sub- segments, with each sub-segment being clearly marked by red bolded and enlargedtext.


    We’re going to begin by showing you a labeled picture of the ‘Create a Thread’ page, with each individual feature labeled with a number. Each number corresponds to a sub-segment, where the feature will be explained and a tutorial given.

    YOUR ACCOUNT - USER PROFILE, SETTINGS & CUSTOMIZING YOUR PROFILE


    In this section we’ll cover your account and all of the specifications, including account settings, your profile, and more. This section is divided into three segments- Account Settings, User Profile, and Other. Each segment is clearly marked by red bolded and enlarged text.

    ACCOUNT SETTINGS

    CrAsH cOuRsE: Adding a Signature
    1. Go to Settings at the top, right-hand corner of the screen.
    2. Click “Edit Signature”
    3. Enter the text of your signature in the “Edit Signature” text box.
    4. If you want to use a picture in your signature, scroll down to the “Upload Signature” box
    5. If you want to add a signature from the Internet, paste the image url of the signature into the Option 1 box.
    6. If you have your signature saved on your computer, select your file in the Option 2 file upload.
    7. Press “Insert Signature Picture” and a [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] will appear in the “Edit Signature” textbox, representing the signature picture.


    CrAsH cOuRsE: Adding a Friend
    1. There are two ways to add a friend.
    2. Option 1: Go to the user’s profile and select “Add as Friend.” Then, check the box if you would like to request a return of friendship.
    3. Option 2: Go to Community > Friends & Contacts. Then, type the username of the user in the search bar. Once you find their name, select “Add Friend.”

    In this segment we’ll go over your user account settings. We will start by showing you a labeled picture of your main settings, and show you how to adjust individual settings using this ‘map’.

    USER PROFILE



    1. This is the “My Profile” button. Click it to access your Profile.

    “My Activity” allows you to access the activity of your, your friends, and your contacts. In the “All” tab, yours and your friends’ posts will be displayed. The following two tabs are for viewing just yours or just your friends’ posts. The “Subscriptions” tab allows you to read the latest posts in threads you have subscribed to.

    Click here to see all the visitor messages posted on that profile. There is also a quick reply box for posting visitor messages.

    “About Me” is where you can access the biography of the user. (If you are viewing
    your profile, the sections of the biography can be edited by clicking the pencil icon next to the section heading.)

    Click here to see a list of all of your friends listed in alphabetical order.

    Click “Customize My Profile” to customize the colors and themes of your profile page. (Notice that this option is only available when you are viewing
    your profile screen.)

    This first box is where you will find options for communicating with the user. You can send them a Private Message, friend them, or view their latest posts, among other things using the links in this box.

    In this box, six of the users friends will be randomly selected to be displayed here. To view all of the user’s friends, click “more.”

    This box will let you monitor your albums. You can create an album by pressing “Add Album” (if you are viewing your own profile).

    This box is for monitoring your groups. You can join a group by pressing “Join Group” (if you are viewing your own profile.)

    This box will display the information relating to visitors. Here, you can find how many visitors a profile has had, and who the most recent 10 visitors were.

    12. This tab shows you your infraction points as explained in section 2. This tab is only available when you are viewing your own profile.

    13. This tab shows you your reputation points. We will go over the reputation system in more detail in section 7.


    CUSTOMIZING YOUR PROFILE

    You can customise your forum profile by clicking the button labelled 6 above ("Customize My Profile").

    Pressing that button will present you with the following:




    You can customise many aspects of your profile using those options. You can use HTML colour codes, images, rgb and rgba options. You can also mess with the font family and font size. This is a pretty good way to give your forum profile a personal look!

    COMMUNICATING WITH OTHER MEMBERS.


    In this section we’ll walk you through methods of communication. There are two main types of communication: Visitor Messages (VM) and Private Messages (PM). We will show you how to use these methods of communication, as well as how to adjust your settings for them. There will be four main segments in this section: the Introduction, Visitor Messages, Private Messages, and Settings. Each segment is clearly marked with red bolded and enlarged text.

    INTRODUCTION

    So you want to talk to your forum friend. Thinking that you can have a conversation in a thread, you start a new thread to talk to your friend about stuff. However, having a discussion within a thread is annoying to other members, disrespectful to the Original Poster if you are having the conversation in another member’s thread, and also isn’t private. Anyone can see and butt in on your conversation.



    Instead of doing something like in the picture above to talk to your friend, you can use Visitor Messages and Private Messages to talk without disturbing others and have a separate conversation. Visitor Messages can still be seen by others, but don’t disturb the forums with private conversations or threads dedicated to talking. Private Messages can only be seen by the sender and the recipient, and are completely private. We’ll start by showing you how to send visitor messages.

    VISITOR MESSAGES

    Visitor messages can be left for someone when you visit their profile. You will be able to leave a visitor message for anyone, unless they have changed their settings to allow otherwise. While visitor messages can still be seen by others, they are appealing because you never run out of space. Your private message inbox will eventually fill up, but Visitor Messages have no limit, making them an easy and simple way to contact your friends without having to go through the hassle of sending a PM (We’ll talk about PMs in the next segment).

    CrAsH cOuRsE: Leaving a visitor message
    1. Click on a member’s avatar or username to visit their profile
    2. Click on the ‘Visitor Messages’ tab next to the ‘Activity’ tab
    3. Enter the message you want to leave. Forum rules still apply and the message must be at least ten characters.
    4. Click the ‘Post Message’ button.

    CrAsH cOuRsE: Responding to a visitor message
    1. Click on the avatar or username of the member who sent you a message
    2. Go to their profile and click on the ‘Visitor Messages’ tab.
    3. Enter the message you want to leave.
    4. Click the ‘Post Message’ button.
    You must leave a response to a visitor message on the intended recipient’s profile. Posting a visitor message on your own profile will not give the intended recipient a notification.

    CrAsH cOuRsE: Editing your visitor message
    1. Go to the visitor message you wish to edit.
    2. Click the ‘Edit’ button.
    3. Make the changes you want.
    4. Click the ‘Done’ button. You can also delete a visitor message this way by using the ‘delete message’ box at the top of the edit screen.

    If you want to leave a visitor message for a member directly from a thread, begin by clicking on the members username or avatar.




    After you’ve gone to the desired member’s profile, click the button at the top of the member’s profile that says ‘Visitor Messages’





    If you don’t see the visitor message tab, the member likely has their settings adjusted to allow no one, or allow only friends, to post visitor messages. However, you should usually be allowed to leave visitor messages for people, as very few members have their settings adjusted. To leave a visitor message, simply click on the text box, type the message you want to leave, and press the ‘Post Message’ button. Be aware that the ten- character limit that applies to posts still applies to visitor messages. After you’ve finished typing up the message you want to leave the member, simply click the “Post Message” button.




    When you send someone a Visitor Message, a number 1 will appear in the notification box at the top of the member’s browser page, letting them know that they have one new notification. You can adjust how you are alerted to notifications in your settings, which will be covered later.



    When you click on the notification, it will take you automatically to the visitor message. You can reply by clicking the View Conversation link by the message and replying in the given text area. Leaving a message on your own profile in response will not give a notification to the person you are talking to. You must respond on their profile in order for them to receive a notification.

    While visitor messages are no more private than talking on a thread, they provide a convenient way to contact other members. Members also prefer to use visitor messages because they take up no space- sending private messages takes up space in your inbox ‘quota’, and often members don’t want to constantly delete private messages in order to keep having a conversation. Visitor messages are easy, convenient,

    However, you can also talk more privately. Any member can see your visitor messages, so if you want to discuss something private, use private messages instead. Private messages are covered in the next segment.


    PRIVATE MESSAGES

    Private messages can be left for someone when you visit their profile, or directly from a thread. Unlike visitor messages, private messages can only be seen by the sender and the chosen recipient, so they are completely private. However, forum rules do still apply to private messages.

    CrAsH cOuRsE: Sending or replying to a private message
    1. IF SENDING: Click on the ‘Send Private Message’ button on a member’s profile.
    IF RESPONDING: Click the ‘Reply to Private Message’ button at the bottom of the message, or type a response in the box below.
    2. Enter the intended recipients. Separate member’s names with semicolons.
    3. Enter a title to your message.
    4. Create a message.
    5. Click the ‘Send Message’ button.

    To send someone a private message from their profile, simply visit their profile page and click on the ‘Send Private Message’ button.



    You can also send someone a private message from a thread, or from a sub forum. You can send someone a private message from a thread by clicking on the member’s username and then clicking on the ‘Send Private Message’ button. You can also leave a visitor message this way.





    When you click on the ‘Send Private Message’ button, it will take you to this screen:





    If you have gotten to the private message screen by clicking on the button on a member’s profile, the username of the recipient will already be entered in the ‘Recipient Users’ box at the top. If you would like to add more recipients, or if you did not select any recipients to begin with, you can enter recipients by typing in their username. Once you have typed enough letters into the box, a list of available recipients will come up. You can select the recipient you want and they will be added to the list of recipients.




    NOTE! If you are adding recipients to a private message that already has a single, selected recipient, you will need to add a semicolon after the first recipients name in order to enter the next recipient. The ‘Recipient Users’ box already notifies users to separate member’s names with a semicolon, but some users do not see this message.

    Example: A message is being sent to Julezwatts. The Private Message screen was accessed by clicking on the link in his profile, so he is already entered as the recipient. The recipient list currently looks like this:




    In order for the sender to successfully send the PM to more than one recipient, they must first enter a semi- colon after Julezwatts’s username, to separate the two recipients, as seen:




    You may send a private message to a maximum of five members at a time, and there is a 60 second cooldown on sending private messages. After you have selected your recipients, type your message into the box below. You must also include a title in order to send your private message. After you have included a title and typed your message, send the message by clicking the ‘send message’ button at the bottom of the screen.

    SETTINGS


    We’ve walked you through sending VMs and PMs, but what about your settings for them? In this segment we’ll walk you step- by- step through accessing and changing your visitor message and private message settings, or, if you prefer, you can use the ever- present Crash Course tutorials.


    CrAsH cOuRsE: Clearing your Private Message space
    1. Go to ‘settings’ by clicking on ‘settings’ at the top right of the page.
    2. Click on ‘inbox’ or ‘sent items’.
    3. Select the items you want to delete by checking the box next to them.
    4. Scroll down to the ‘Selected Messages’ button and click it.
    5. Select delete and click ‘proceed’.

    CrAsH cOuRsE: Deleting a visitor message (On your own profile)
    :1. Go to your profile.
    2. Click on the ‘Visitor Messages’ tab.
    3. Check the box next to the messages you want to delete.
    4. Scroll down to ‘Moderation Tools’ and click on it.
    5. Select delete and click proceed, leave a message or chose not to, and click the ‘delete’ button. You can delete any and all visitor messages on YOUR profile.

    CrAsH cOuRsE: Deleting a message you left on another member’s profile.
    1. Go to the message you want to delete.
    2. Click the ‘edit’ button.
    3. Click the ‘Go advanced’ button next to the ‘Save’ button.
    4. Click the ‘delete message’ button at the top of the page.

    This segment will be split up into subsections. The first subsection will be dedicated to Visitor Message settings, the second will be dedicated to Private messages. This is part of the same tutorial found in section six, and covers user settings for visitor a private messages.

    VISITOR MESSAGES

    CHANGING YOUR VISITOR MESSAGE SETTINGS.

    In order to change your visitor message settings, first enter your account settings by clicking on the settings button in the top right corner of the screen.


    Once you’ve entered your settings page, look to the left of the screen. A column of setting options will be displayed. Scroll down and click on ‘Profile Privacy’ in the ‘My Settings’ box under ‘My profile’.



    Now scroll down to the ‘Visitor Messages’ pull- down tab.

    Here you can adjust exactly WHO can view your visitor messages. If you want to customize who can SEND you visitor messages, you first need to go to General Settings:


    When you enter general settings, you can adjust your visitor message settings by scrolling down to the ‘Messages and Notifications’ section and scrolling down to ‘Visitor Messages’.

    Here, you can choose to turn visitor messages on and off entirely, or you can select who is able to send you private messages, adjusting the limitations from ‘Everyone Can Send Me Private Messages’ to ‘Only Contacts And Moderators Can Send Me Private Messages.’ Once you have made the changes you want, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the ‘Save Changes’ button.




    DELETING VISITOR MESSAGES FROM YOUR PROFILE.

    To delete visitor messages from your profile, first go to your profile by clicking on either your username or the ‘My Profile’ button at the top right corner of the page.


    Now, go to your visitor messages and check the box next the messages you want to delete.


    When you’ve selected the messages you want to delete, scroll down to the ‘Moderation Tools’ button, select the delete option, and click ‘proceed’.

    The messages that you selected should now be deleted. If you are having trouble deleting your messages, close and re-open your browser to refresh the connection.


    DELETING MESSAGES FROM OTHER’S PROFILES.

    In order to delete visitor messages that you’ve left on other member’s profiles, you first need to go the the profile of the person you left the message on. Visit another member’s profile by clicking on their avatar or username. Once you’re on the profile of the member you want to delete a message from, go to their visitor messages by clicking on their visitor message tab.


    Identify the message that you want to delete. You can only delete a message that YOU left if you are deleting a message from another member’s profile. When you’ve identified the message you want to delete, click the ‘edit’ link.

    When you’ve clicked on edit, scroll down and click on ‘Go Advanced’.


    In the advanced edit screen, the top option is a delete box. In order to delete the message, you can either leave a reason for deleting the message or you can simply delete the message. When you are ready to delete the message, press the ‘delete’ button.

    Your visitor message has now been deleted. You can only delete one message at a time when you are deleting messages left on another member’s profile. Like deleted posts, moderators can also see deleted visitor messages, as well as any previous edits you made to the message.

    PRIVATE MESSAGES


    CHANGING YOUR PRIVATE MESSAGE SETTINGS.

    Like changing your visitor message settings, your private message settings can be accessed and changed in your account settings page.


    Once you’ve entered the settings page, click on the general settings tab under ‘My Account’.


    Once you’re in general settings, scroll down to the ‘Private Message’ section of ‘Messaging and Notifications’. We’ll walk you through each setting and what it does.


    The first setting in the private message section is the option to turn private messages on or off. This is a simple setting- you can either select on to receive and send private messages, or you can select off to not receive or send PMs.

    The second setting allows you to choose who can send you private messages. If you select ‘from all members’, anyone who is a member of the forums can send you a private message. If you select ‘only from contacts and moderators’, only forum members who you are friends with and site leaders can send you a PM.

    The third setting allows you to have private messages sent via email. If you select to turn this setting on, you will receive an email notification whenever you are sent a private message. You will always get an email notification when your PM inbox is full, regardless of whether or not you have this setting on or off.

    The fourth setting allows you to choose how new Private Message notifications are displayed to you on the forums. You can choose to be notified of a new message by a pop- up, which will notify you of a new message when you refresh the screen. A pop- up notification for a private message looks like this in google chrome:


    The fifth and final private message setting helps you manage your private memory storage space. You can turn this setting on to automatically discard (Not save) private messages that you have sent to others. This means that you can’t keep a record of sent PMs, but it also means that you have more storage space for your inbox and won’t have to clear your private message space as often.

    DELETING PRIVATE MESSAGES

    Your private message space can only hold 100 messages before you have to delete some. You can slow down how fast your private message space will fill up by using the fifth setting we discussed earlier.

    FORUM LEADERS.


    In this section we will go over the forum’s leaders. This includes community managers, moderators, and administrators. Both the administrators and the community managers are employees of supercell. This section is split into two segments: Supercell staff and Forum Moderators. Each of these segments is clearly marked.

    CrAsH cOuRsE: Forum Leadership
    1. Orange Badge labeled 'SUPERCELL STAFF': SC employees and senior forum administrators.
    2. Orange Badge labeled 'SUPERCELL MODERATOR': Volunteer community member who polices forums.
    3. Blue Badge labeled 'GAME SPECIALIST': Volunteer game expert with no administrative duties or authority.
    4. Orange Badge should be contacted for forum issues. Blue Badge should be contacted for game questions. For game issues, see support sub-forum. Any badge color other than orange or red has no forum authority or SC authority.


    Supercell Staff - Community Managers

    The top forum leaders are community managers. They are official supercell staff. You can take what they say as official statements from Supercell. Of course, on April Fools, be careful. On April Fools 2014, CLOWN wars was announced, now obviously this was Clan wars. Sadly, some people fell for it, and quit the game due to disappointment.

    You can identify staff members if they have this badge next to their name:


    Each of the below community managers are Community Managers for a specific game. They are less likely to respond to game-specific queries regarding games outside of their managerial purview.

    Tim is the community manager for Clash Royale.
    Marika is a Clash of Clans community manager.
    Anoushka is a Clash of Clans community manager.
    Nick is the community manager for Hay Day.
    Frisco is the stand in community manager for Hay Day.
    Rlight is the community manager for Boom Beach

    MODERATORS

    On August 22nd, 2016 - Supercell decided that moderators would now be identified as Supercell Moderators. Supercel Moderators wear these badges above their avatar:


    Supercell Moderators are volunteers who are chosen by SC Staff and other SC Mods to moderate the forums. They are not paid by Supercell, nor do they receive any in-game content not given to regular users. They can be privileged to certain upcoming game feature information, generally discussed with regards to how such features will impact their forum roles as moderators. Their duty is to enforce the forum rules and they are a more direct line of communication between the forum members and Supercell staff.

    The main objectives of moderators is:

    • Help those in need: troubleshooting, strategy, new players, etc.
    • Police the bad stuff, recognize and highlight the good
    • Keep forums organized so visitors can find the information they need
    • Help Supercell remain a “Player First” company
    • Determine and champion the average opinion of players
    • Support fellow mods and preserve unity within the moderator team
    • Maintain a balanced, objective and friendly tone on the forums
    • Maintain a friendly and polite public image as an individual moderator


    Moderator posts should carry the same weight as a Supercell employee. They are in contact with the game teams daily, and are very much aware of what's going on development wise.

    Historically moderators have been chosen based on dedication and service to the forum community. While previous discussion in this section revolved around the privileges associated with 'Senior Moderators' and regular 'Moderators', there is no discrimination in terms of the forum administrative abilities that moderators enjoy and these terms originated based on the seniority of certain moderators tenure.

    You can pretty much PM all moderators. Stick to one moderator per issue though. You may notice that certain moderators tend to police specific sub-forums or game forums. You should identify the moderator who can best address your issue.
    Please note that moderators and staff have to do a lot of work. If they don’t respond to your PM then please don’t spam them with multiple messages.

    Game Specialists are members of the community who have been identified as volunteer game-help members by the forum chain of command. They enjoy no special forum administrative privileges but can be identified through a blue badge. Their job is to serve as everyday active members of the community who are well-versed in game mechanics and can respond to threads by members concerning specific games. They have no administrative authority or responsibility and should not be confused with moderators.

    Any other forum badge that is not orange (Or previously red for some Supercell employees labeled with 'supermod rights' in the 'Forum Chiefs' page) is not indicative of any company-vested authority to speak officially as a SC representative and have no forum or game developmental authority.

    Sneakymaori is currently the known longest-serving forum moderator.
