I am a nealy maxed defense th9 besides arch towers and bombs, with almost all skull walls. Is crystal DE farming a good idea for me? How can i defend well?

There is plenty of easy DE in low crystal and the best part is you can use a standard farming army to get it. I get around 6k DE per hour using giants barbs archers and wallbreakers.
As for defending, the best thing you can do is put your th outside.

I prefer balloonian farming at Masters league. Can easily rake in 12k DE an hr or higher over 3 raids.
(most I got was 24k DE in 20 minutes [involved massive losses but a one chance opportunity)

Out of interest what is the most DE possible in a raid? I'm presuming that the bonus in included in the amounts above. and no - I'm not thinking of going that high - just curious
I only went to crystal 3 very briefly for the gems. I didn't find it that much different from being in Gold 1 except people were slightly more determined to take my DE back.The bonus of 50DE for Crystal 3 does not make that much (or any difference) to the game.
I decided to stay in Gold 1 for now. Plenty raids of 1-2K there. For some reason unknown to me quite a few people put it towards the outer layers of their main base so its easily accessible. Plus there are overly confident TH10s who put their Inferno Towers in really accessible place thinking that it will protect their DE so if you fancy the challenge there's a chance to work on the achievement.
Imo trophies don't matter - unless you want the gems for the achievement.. The only real way to see if crystal is best for you is to go there. That and I like the purple badge.

Crystal 3 is one of the best ranges for TH9 to farm DE, it's unbelievable.
The higher you go in trophies, the better DE there is!
6,600 DE per raid is the absolute max, 3,000 from storages, and 3,600 from DE Drills... However, to find both at their fullest is a very rare thing in leagues such as Crystal, tend to be found in high masters/champs where people begin throwing DE out because there is quite literally no purpose other than to train their GoWiWi's with it

Maximum possible is 6600. Off drilll n max storages itself. Haven't accounted for clan war loot... But I'm assuming they wouldn't exist much in most of my raids...

The higher you go, the more DE youŽll find, also the higher you go people will start protecting their TH more and more while their DE less and less
