That's not true. Client side code isn't altered. However, there are config files which the client retrieves that contain various numeric bits of info. This how they can do things like a 1 gem collector boost without a client upgrade.
This means they can do things like alter defense and unit damage, shot rates, even quantities. For example, they can and have increased the number of a particular building permitted at a given TH through a maintenance break.

Cool so stats explained, just a change in available values, I assume this did not update the GUI unless those files were already present on the client. Does the same hold true for AI? Trying to understand as it seems AI could be more complicated than a value. Although the AI is not very complex, seems like changing it outside of a client update would not be possible. Thanx.
And honestly I had forgotten being able to adjust values independent of client, as in the past I created modified position, damage and quantity values in maps for BF1942: Desert Combat for our server.
