That's only true if your aim is to reach a fully maxed base as quickly as possible. Most people will never get that far. At the rate I was farming at TH9 (about 2.5 million per day on average), it would have taken me 10 months to get full lava wall after maxing my defences - no way was I going to wait that long.Originally Posted by Anarchos

I upgrade my barracks very early, so in my head having non-upgraded barracks usually means a lot of other non upgraded stuff. Glad to hear your other Defenses are maxed so that certainly makes it easier.
As I mentioned before the mandatory requirement as far as I'm concerned is to max your farming troops and camps for your level prior to going up. Defenses are just there to protect your loot when you log off. As for Barracks, If you never use the troops in the higher barracks then it's not a requirement to move up. It's just easier to upgrade them at a lower TH level because the loot is "cheaper" or easier to get.
In full disclosure I was super premie on defenses at TH6, TH7, TH8, and TH9 but always had max farming armies and camps so it had very little effect other than losing a little more on my attack when I logged off for the night. I went a little early to TH10 due to wanting IT's for CW, but only about 6 weeks early.

First off I would say get all your barracks to level 10.... This should have been done WAAAY before you got CLOSE to level 117. I did mine all lev 10 at level 70ish.
Get all kevel 9 walls. You all ready have a 100, just go for another 150 and then your base will look pro.
You have to have level 29 heroes... They are a massive help and a must before going to th 10
Just upgrade the 2 Dark Barracks. Witches are pretty nice to have
