Why? farmer find challenge in getting the most loot and get the most upgrades
SC made the loot penalty so they can not get as much from lower TH levels and at the same time so you can upgrade your TH without being impossible
It works pretty well so far
Right, it's their kind of challenge and a perspective thing.

Farming is something that just seems mindless to me. Trying to take down a larger opponent where you are overmatched is what I consider challenging.

Sure.. I could say I want to get tons of loot and upgrade x,y,z as quickly as possible. But, if you are doing that by just attacking the inferior... it's mindless. I could do it, or I could watch paint dry all day. haha

But.. as I said, I do see that it's a perspective difference.

Loot penalty is needed, because people don't want to challenge their raiding skills against a tougher opponent. They are ok beating down the inferior, so they need to be forced not to... via less loot. Haha.

My perspective... it's a war game. You strive to beat people better than you. There is no need for a loot penalty with that perspective.

When you get all the loot and great troops and defenses and you suck at the game in terms of actually trying to attack someone better than you, seems like a waste to me. It's like earning a ferrari, but you don't know how to drive... big deal. (or get a chauffeur I guess, haha)

A lot of farmers don't only attack the week as it doesn't give as much loot
When CW came out a lot of farmer notice that they were bad at raiding, and CW was good because it gave them challenge back
As I have said before, the war game starts at champions and CW
yeah.. there was no point in upgrading your base if you forget how to raid, and there is no point in upgrades if it were always a fight
It is balance as now in that aspect

You have a very strange (and unrealistic I think) view on farming.
I farm, and take on hard bases for their loot often... assuming they are rich enough.
I'm a farmer, I'll do anything for the loot!

You can't rely on inactives, on the weekends their aren't any. So you have to be able to take on good bases as well.
You certainly can't rely on townhalls much lower than you due to the loot penalty.

On the flip side to your anti-farming example, I find it pointless to have a terrible base, and be struggling along in low crystal earning no loot, doomed to having a terrible base for ever. Check out global and 90% of people there recruiting as a crystal...
(and don't tell me you get loot from clanwars, clanwars loot is a joke)

If there was more loot from making it to high Masters leagues, and raiding other Town Hall 10s, ALL farmers would be doing it... it's entirely SuperCell's decision that farmers aren't doing that. If there was a loot bonus worth worrying about, we'd all be doing it.

And if I can reverse your ferrari analogy.
Pushing with a weak base is like buying a 1992 Toyota, taking it to the racetrack every day and trying to set new lap records for a 1992 Toyota...

Bad idea, players would make new accounts and exploit the hell out of it by been selective with upgrades.

    Clan wars - 500k gold , 500 elixer , 1300 dark elixer for 2 attacks. - if you win.

I think it could be higher to give more value, but don't tell me you are gaining that on two attacks if you are attacking higher level bases either. You are spending lots of elixer and dark elixer if you are attacking higher level bases.

Being good at raiding doesn't mean I have no loot. I do just fine in the loot and upgrading area. It's just that I don't let a trophy count which is very misleading sway who I attack. I like you, am about profit. I do attack lower to get loot, but that's only because the game makes that the "way" to gain resources.

However, clan wars is what I enjoy the most because it is attempting to create a level playing field.

How could they make it so I don't have to do farming ?? Make the loot bonus higher if you win - both league and clan wars.

Right now the loot bonus for both leagues and clan wars is silly. If there was a big payoff for me beating someone who is stronger than me, that would make sense. But if I am beating someone lower than me.. I don't deserve a bonus.

And I respect someone with a 1992 toyota who has actual driving skills more than someone who has this ferrari and NEVER races it. Yes.. their toyota lap record means they have mastered something other than beating down someone lower than them.

I am not saying that everyone is like that. But certainly in clan wars I've noticed that there are alot of these nifty cool icons for people with high trophy counts, but lack attack skills against someone of similar strength.

Again.. we all farm at some point. But, when I see in these clan wars people who obviously have no raid skills but have impressive icons... I'm not fooled into thinking they are good at anything but farming.

Yes, I enjoy them rolling all their ferrari's out of the garage and archer castle troops leveling them because they have no clue about how to pull castle troops and kill them before releasing the hounds.

You are confusing idiots with farmers I think.
There are idiot farmers I guess, but there are just as many idiot trophy pushers being revealed.
Especially in clan wars where they can't press next 50 times looking for a dumb base, low town hall or external town hall to snipe.
Not many people who have farmed decent troops don't know how to use them.

Kelu understand my point. I also do see that there is a large if not majority of players out there who bottom feed and it might be an economic thing for SuperCell. I'm not sure because I don't access to their data. They can look to see who is buying gems and what kind of player it is. I suspect it's not the bottom feeders because they are in a way playing to get resources to do upgrades. I think the majority of SuperCell's revenue comes from the guys who rush their upgrades and you see really unbalanced camps.

If you break out of the trophy and TH perspective you can see that farming is still viable with a system where you are matched against other players of roughly the same strength camps. As an example a fully upgraded TH5 is probably in the same category as a newly upgraded TH6 with few upgrades. Now you toss in the "gemmers" who upgrade to TH8 but have level 5 walls and equally weak defensive buildings (I saw 2 today who applied to my clan, they were denied of course). A well upgraded TH5 player or a new TH6 player would find that an excellent target for either trophies or resources.

The decision is not solely based on TH level. The spectrum of possible opponents can be fairly wide. If you take the time to look at the war map the next time and see who are not only your equal but a couple of places above and below you see a variety of abilities. If this selection process was implemented in the regular raid match engine you would also see players with a variety of loot and wall designs.

This doesn't exclude farmers but rather the bottom feeders. I farm with Barch and a few goblins thrown in the army, it takes me awhile to find someone who is a challenge but now I rely on my skill and tactics to win through.

I want to think the majority of players aren't the bottom feeders and would welcome a challenge. Perhaps I'm overly optimistic.

I think we can agree that the term "farmer" doesn't mean someone isn't skilled at attacking. As to whether the majority of farmers are "idiots" or not, we might have to just disagree.

We all farm to some degree. But I have been in enough clans with "farmers", who never challenged a tougher opponent, because they didn't need to in order to gain loot, to know it's a common enough thing. That is why there is a loot penalty. -- it ain't there because it's not common
