In our most recent clan war a member of the opposing clan appears to have tried to use airplane mode to practice an attack, but the game counted his 8% progress in the attack instead of resetting! Did SC fix this without making note of it?

nope, he wasn't on airplane mode
They haven't fixed this yet, he most likely didn't do the method right and screwed up the attack.

According to what you said here it seems that he lost internet connection
That was my first thought, but didnt SC have some sort of safe-guard against that for clan wars attacks? Which is why airplane mode became such an issue in the first place?

hmmm......you are right. Maybe some rang his door bell or his mum called him who knows.
People have been doing this to practice the best way to 3 star a base in clan wars. I've seen it happen with my own two eyes. It's a cheap way to win, but some people don't care, they just want to win by any means necessary.
