These maintenance breaks I don't believe go through Apple. Yes, on patches it's hard to predict when Apple pushes the button so to speak.
But on these server down/maintenance there is almost no reason you can't give a 2 hours heads up.
I am a Global Server Admin for a company of 180k employees. Simply taking down a server with 5 minutes notice, to a globally accessed server is unacceptable in my realm.
A 2 hour notice should be easy to give, although i suspect it be more of, the engineers at SC get in and think "Lets hurry up and fix this and get it out of the way". I understand this as I feel this almost daily, and where they are able to do it, I am not in my conditions. I helps keep them from having this task linger over them another 2 hours. I believe I know where they are coming from, but I agree with the masses here, I think they should give a 2 hour notice, that way people can plan their boosting, attacks, etc.. better.

I do not want to argue over this anymore. But server is back online, but we can't attack yet. I hereby conclude that this update cost us 50 gems. 15 minutes is over, just to remind you.

yeah, I try to stay away from the game on the day an update is made. Wait till the dust settles....
