Are the ladders still there when you attack or do the villagers bring them into the TH with them?

The ladder leads to the percentage lootable from you, the locks guard a super hidden passage to the rest of your gold. Raiders will destroy the 'tip of the iceberg' for the 'exposed' gold and caves in the secret underground passage leading to the rest of your gold.
Be thankful to the ladder, if not, you WILL be looted for 100% of your gold!
