For times when your gold is maxed, you can free up some room by buying decorations...then you can actually keep the goal you earn in raids.

The more area you have covered, the less spawn points for trees and gem boxes. I'd rather have a chance at a more regular influx of gems. Then every couple days I can boost some barracks for free. I just sold my last decoration.
