Take care with olive oil in the USA. I once bought in a big store in Texas a small bottle of "olive oil" that costed a lot and had plenty of italian flags on the label but actually tasted like what... motor oil ?
It was 1998 and it was a little town in a remote corner of Texas, I hope that globalization, among many bad things, has helped common people tell true from false olive oil. The one I bought in Texas maybe was canola or soybean oil with some green coloring inside.
Same thing happened with Parmesan cheese. I took from Italy a small piece of real parmesan, when my texan girlfriend tasted it she couldn't swallow it (it was too tasteful/aromatic) as she had got used to the nearly tasteless powdered cheese that comes out of a tube for spreading on pizza or pasta.
I really hope things have changed since that far 1998 !
