I may have done something stupid.
So, the update came out, and the bonus loot was nice. I started saving up.
I was a halfway decent TH7, when I decided to upgrade to 8. This was partly fueled by a sense of competitiveness with some annoying person I barely know at lunch deciding that their base was better, and partially because someone else that I actually knew was trying to just rush through all the townhall levels, and that sounded fun.
Anyways, we lost our first clan war, but my loot bonus was enough to push me over the 2mil for TH8. Lured in by the promise of new walls, I pressed "upgrade".
Going along my merry way, upgrading my townhall, when all of a sudden I have 1.5 mil gold for no reason. On a whim, and still feeling a sense of competition, I decided to see if I could farm enough gold to upgrade again. I hit a massive spot of good raiding (and now I am much better with Barch!) and by the time the upgrade finished, I had close to 4 million.
Naturally, I clicked "upgrade" again.
By the time it finishes, my new walls and archer tower will be at a half-decent level. But the question is-
Was this a really stupid idea?
