You need to farm for resources. Taking you townhall out will give you a chance of getting a free shield which means you want have any resources taken off you for the next 12 hours after the attack

I upgraded from TH6 to TH7 this week, I have 1604 trophies and can still raid fine, takes a while to find bases but hey
You need to upgrade your walls and rearrange your defences to maximise the use of your teslas and bombs
Farm till you drop dead. Then wake up and farm again until you drop dead. Repeat a few times and you will escape premature.

Try dropping trophies to the 1000-1250 range lots of th 7's there. Also go to a farming base to get easier shields with less loot loss. And do the barch army I'm guessing you don't have much free de for minion making. Gobs would also work for collector raids.
Tips
1. Raid Your A$$ Off
2. upgrade your mines and pumps to the max level
3. Find good bases (perfect range to farm 1390 - 1500 th8)
4. Have Fun
For me, the trophy range I'm comfortable with is the range where the bases are within my grasp. It can be a little bit higher according to strategy. You can raid a bit higher when you're only "collecting" the outside.
Upgrade your offense. Camps, archers and barbarians.
1600 is too high for me. I raid around 1300.
If all goes wrong, there is a way out, but it's not pretty. It's sub200. A Barbarian King would be nice. Lower your trophy to around 50 (I've been at 0). There are still abandoned bases there, you can raid with a couple of goblins, barbarians or archers for about 40 to 80k (or your BK) a raid. If you do it right, you raid faster there than at any level. But it's boring and "cheap".
It's a weird king of thing and you have to do it just right. Prepare yourself with all the knowledge you can get.
Raid using mainly gobbies . Try a set up of 10 giants , 8 wbs , and the rest gobbies and go for exilier only . Gobbies are the best for quick snatch and grab raids . Good lucki cant raid!! everyone i raids bases are way too strong for me
