Just read all your delightful posts and am once again overwhelmed by your kind words and support of me and my ideas! Thank you all so much, would love to reply to all of you but then this response post would be GIGANTIC lol.

I appreciate all of you responding to the negative post and having my back hehe. I will ignore the haters as you say, although there has only been one negative post so far and I'll respond to him first!

    C) its a million times easier to shop little villages into fake screens than it is to code software that has to work on every conceivable platform to render little model bases onto the Layout # buttons. this could never happen.

    D) read a book!
First off, I'm trying to tell if your post was sarcastic or genuinel real. If it was the latter, here is my response:

    A. Simple, it doesn't take that long! Next response.
    B. Please name the other flaws tht you have found in the Share feature. The only one you mention shows you didn't read that section. If someone shares a layout, you can save it but only use it if you have the same types of items (levels don't matter). If I am TH9 and save my friend's TH9 base, chances are pretty high that we have all the same items, even if they are different levels. Once I use the Layout, the picture will update accordingly with my level of items. make sense? If it doesn't please let me know.
    C. True! Good thing SC has amazing programmers to put ideas into the game and make them realities. Someone posted a similar comment about my Village Edit Mode thread and 3 weeks later it was in the game Never is a strong word by the way, check back in a month and we'll see who's right.
    D. That sound wonderful, any suggestions?

Fair point. However there are COUNTLESS designs in the game at the moment. And there would still be if this was implemented. Plus bases are being copied already through online sites, although I know what you mean

Thanks Jnelly, haha it was just one guy and I actually think he might have been joking!

It would be awesome to save 2 or more layouts due the cw.
Sharing them is not really that necessary.

    Thanks for your effort.
Appreciate your comment and to answer your question, nah But wouldn't that be great! (for me at least )

Thanks Daddy! And appreciate you letting this sit here for a few days so people can see it. I know there are a couple sticklers out there who this issue matters to a lot/want order, but I think the majority would just rather see this post vs not seeing it.

The problem of having to change your village within the closing minutes of prep day is not addressed yet, and I find that is one of the bigger hassles. As the re-arranging takes time, if you want to invent your own war base even more time, and to not be free to do this at leasure but forced to the end of prep day is a nuissance of some proportion.
Yes, course you could change the village sooner, but if I don't have a shield, I'll have my village in war mode too long for comfort.
So please let's start with a war edit mode, all the necessary programming already exists, doesn't it?

Great suggestion, and I think that would be a great solution to the issue of Clan Wars bases. It would be a perfect companion to this idea too.

I will chime in with some points, which you can address if you like. Address means your suggestions. You do need to reply to this, but I think your post is pretty awesome and I hope to make it even better, if I can, and you permit.

    1. Sharing is a complicated process because of different townhalls, different defenses on the same townhall, different wall levels/counts etc. Then some people do not buy all buildings/traps even on the same townhall level. So, implementing it will be a huge problem. I think it is better to completely drop the idea.

    2. Builder screen can be completely removed and Layouts can have a "New" button which copies the current village and let's you edit and save it. Saves us one direct screen/click and keeps it simple.

    3. One point which you need to address is older layouts. If I saved a layout and added new buildings (on the same TH level or after upgrading my townhall), the same problems I mentioned in point 1 (for shares) will crop up. What do you suggest for that? (Updated buildings are not an issue I think). One possible way I think is disabling the "Use" button with a message like "New buildings added. Place them on the layout to use" type of message. When such layout is edited, the building should show in the list of buildings which are yet to be placed (at the bottom).

    4. You idea of obstacle is pretty good. I have just addition. The solution can be that layouts do not take them into account at all. All which needs to be done is disabling the "Use" button and marking the layout with "Obstacle intruding with layout. Remove obstacles to use." type of message, as you suggested.

Just my two cents. Once again, brilliant thread.
Thanks for the nice post yjagota! Very eloquent and intelligent response I must add, appreciate your genuine curiosity in my proposal and I'll try to answer your questions to the best of my abilities

    1. This is definitely a question that has popped up a few times. Basically when you save a shared Layout, you can only use it if all the items are the same, but the levels do not have to be the same. For instance if I am TH7 and I save my friend's TH7 base, chances are we have the same items. Even if his defenses are a higher level, the Layout will still recognize that I have the same items, and place it accordingly. I'd have to have the same decorations and traps though, which you could simply edit out of the friend's base with relative ease. Now if my friend is a TH8 and I am a TH7, chances are he has more items that I cannot get so I most likely won't be able to use his base.

    2. Would you mind elaborating a bit on this idea? Do you mean having a Layouts button on Village edit mode instead of the separate window? Thanks!

    3. Good point. You would have to just purchase the new items in live mode though (so they go into your Village Edit Mode inventory) and simply edit them in to whatever base you would want to use. That also reminds me, I forgot to add a Delete button to layers. You could Save over existing layouts, but a delete button might be helpful too.

    4. Good suggestion and that is actually what the idea already consists of, so we are thinking on the same page! Sorry if it was confusing in the OP, but that's what it is supposed to do (have the error message)!

Hope this helped!!! Let me know if I can answer anything else or if this was sufficient, thanks

Good night all, thanks for your lovely responses and I'll try to answer any questions you have by posting them here!

Mastermind, I think if you don't have a hero that is in the base, like you don't have the AQ for th9 yet, base will just take the hero out for you

On the second point, what I meant was, going from here:

As for the 4th point, no the message thing was very clear in the OP, I just wanted to add that the layouts do not take obstacles into account at all. Means, they don't show obstacles in village edit mode, nor save them. They just show clean village for editing.

I hope I made the two points clear. Thanks for replying.

Great to hear this idea is being thought about. I registered to be able to post the same request and saw this great thread.

Especially now with clan wars, the ability to save base designs is almost a requirement to do well. Having to choose between a good base to help the clan but a weak base for your own resources is I'm sure an unintended negative side effect of the update. This feature request would make it perfect if implemented.
Manually rebuilding before and after each war preparation day is dauntingly time consuming.

The save village feature is already in game. Just need a couple of slots to save different formats to and load from.

Edit: The sharing feature might be nice for some people but impo that might be better in a separate update as I imagine it would be more of an implementation than just the save and load; and the save and load feature is much more important currently.

Ps I would put this in ideas sub forum. It's first plave I went to suggest the idea, then later only found this thread by searching forum. Looks like there are others posting threads in ideas forum too. Might be better to consolidate for devs attention better maybe

    Cheers

First off. Thank you for all your effort into explaining your implementation of saved layouts. One thing that crossed my mind when reading was that you possibly are unaware that your current edit of your village is saved automatically when closing the game, ipad, whatever. When you start CoC again, the game will then open in edit village mode with no progress lost.

just wanted to make sure everyone is aware of what's already available in-game.

And he does it again! Great job Mastermind!
If I were to tweak one thing about this it would be the ability to name your layouts such as Such as farming or trophy hunting or just give it a cool name like Indestructible! Thanks

A few improvements at first glance

    - It is insufficient to fix the issue with clan wars. Clan wars war base pretty much requires its own editor, because with this you still have the need to get online, change base before timer, and change back. I am not 100% sure but in the previous clan wars the war base did not update the second I changed my base, so there's this hassle also, to change so that my client sends the new base to server in time.

    - In layouts window, layouts could perhaps be tagged with green/red colors to correspond to useable/non-useable designs.

    - Obstacles solution is not super elegant, what if the game just auto-removed them without builder and no wait (with confirmation of course)?

    - Would be better to just have 4 saves maximum, unrelated to the number of builder huts. Now you have to scroll down or to right in saved layouts window if 5?
