Got one, gives out 25. I think everyone might get on the first obstetrical spawn after the update.

I'm guessing around the same rate as the Christmas trees (2% spawn chance), if not then maybe a little more.

I'm not opening mine.

You can only have 1 on your map at a time, so if you never open it, you'll never get another one. I'm pretty sure the Gem boxes are not seasonal, so they are probably going to be here for the long haul. So I would not worry about 'preserving it'.
