I spent tons of time searching on the forums for more info on clan wars, and it just wasn't there. So I'm going to dedicate this post to the info I have found.
First things first... watch the Chief Pat videos. playclashofclans on youtube and find his clan wars videos. EXCELLENT info out there. The first is this one, the general details

The second one to watch is the matchmaking video. It's going to take some time to find a match. The matchmaking is based on Townhall level of the players in your clan (yay!) So say you're in a farming clan that is a ton of TH 7-8 preying on us in Silver 1 and Gold 3 with only, say 14,000 clan cups. And there is another clan that is a constant trophy pushing clan with a bunch of TH 7-8 but you all hang out in crystal league with, say 19,000 clan cups. The clan wars match making will match you together based on your townhall level. See this video:

The next video to watch is the preparation day video. This details the day before the clan war. Donating troops for the war, getting your base ready for the war phase, and who to attack when the war comes. See this video:

The next video is the actual battle day video! This video shows all about attacking twice in the 24 hour battle period and accumulating stars or points for the war. Follow the recommended target is a good idea. If you attack a base too low, it leaves the higher level bases for your lower level clan mates. See this video:

PS: Leaders and coleads can START a war. So you can start multiple wars and participate against different clans, so use caution!
