While OP has an awful attitude, the point is somewhat valid: as the highest level (best troops/spells) in my clan, I expect that I will be spending more elix (and maybe even dark) than I gain, unless my clan wins every war. Thus, it's conceivable that clan wars might be an overall net loss of elixir (although I would disagree). Still, I don't think this is a problem: participation is indeed optional (find a new clan if yours forces you), you don't have to spend a ton of elixir on your troops, and the amount of elixir lost, if any, will pale in comparison to the amount of gold that is created.
