Hey,
True, this is my style when it comes to Looning. I like to identify and nullify an area with loons (possibly Rage) then use minimal minions to clean up. This then leave me with a ton of minions for sniping in other areas either for resources or % towards the 50%.
To be honest you can't really tell someone to use 2 loons here or 3 loons there, that just takes time to understand. Reason being is that every base is different and certain areas have different cover fire.
Here is a raid from this morning. I'll try to explain what is going on in my head (before and during the raid).
Note: I am aware this is a fairly easy base but it's the best I have to try and show right now. Plus I don't have any Heroes so I'm trying to pick slightly easier bases for the loot bonus.
- Instantly, after seeing the base, I know I'm going to focus on the top right and bottom right of the base. Reason being once I break down the defences it offers around 30 to 40% of the base (so we're already nearly at 50%).
- The AQ is nicely on the left side so i'll worry about her later.
- Firstly I snipe any outside buildings with single minions so that troops deployed later will get deeper into the base quicker.
- Because the Air Defense is so spread out (i.e.: not overlapping with each other) then I know I can first work on the bottom right, take a breather, then work on the top right. (Sometimes if Air Defence overlap then I need to clear 2 areas at the same time (to confuse the ADs).
- On to the bottom right, I want to get to the AD as quickly as possible however there is a Mortar in the way. If I drop all my loons they will go to the Mortar first and then to the Archer Tower (missing the AD)
- As the defences are 2 rows deep I'm going to need rage to get loons there quickly
- I drop the rage so that it covers the Mortar and also the line to the AD
- 2 loons then to knock out the mortar, while thats happening I also drop 3 for the Archer Tower and 2 for the Wizard Tower
- Once the Mortar is knocked out I can then get a direct line to the AD so drop 3 more now and they use the same Rage to quickly get that out
- There, the bottom right is now totally knocked out.
- I then repeat the same for the top right.
- Rage over mortar & AD, take out Archer Tower and Wizard Tower while Mortar going down.
- Once mortar is down I get direct line to AD and BOOM the top right and bottom right is gone. I haven't even used any minions yet.
- Drop maybe 5 or 6 minions now to clean up that area and give me close to 40% (I can forget that part of the base now)
- Now I'm left with around 50 minions & 15 more in CC and only 10% to get. easy peasy, so I use these guys to knock out the AQ and best collect as many resources as possible.
I always use the first 30 seconds to work out my best lines to clearing key defences in 1 or 2 areas (Air Defence, Archer Towers & Wizard Towers mainly. I also keep an eye on ITs and x-bows but will stay away if possible). No need to prod the beast in most instances.
Anyway here is the raid:
I think if RS is going to do a guide then it would work best with examples and voice-over clearly explaining what and why something is happening.
If I hadn't told you I was specifically dropping 2 loons on the Mortar, 3 on the Archer Tower, 2 on the Wizard Tower then 3 more as soon as the Mortar was down then some people might just see the replay and assume I'm just spamming these troops in the hope of achieving something.
Hope this makes sense. Like everything it just takes practise and you build up confidence and knowledge. As Jess said it becomes second nature after a while. I can pretty much see a base now, now know exactly how much % each area will offer up and how best to try and get it. Of course things do go wrong, we're not perfect, in these cases it's best to have your trusty Heroes as backup. If things really go wrong then there's always another battle
