    Dumping gold on walls?

Lots of people say that as they are waiting for upgrades to finish, they dump their gold on walls. But when my defences are upgrading, I save up ready to do the next upgrade. Why would you dump it on walls, it then makes it harder to save up for the next defence upgrade

I always continue playing till I have enough to do upgrade.
All the rest is sunk into walls.

If all my builders except one is working on upgrades and i got 2.5M in storages i would dump it on walls. Why? Cause the upgrade time is so long that i have enough time to farm the gold despite dumping on walls.

    Example:

3 of 4 builders are upgrading stuff and it will take 6 days until another builder is free. Instead having 350k gold available for others to raid and therefore making my base a good target i would dump them on walls. Now i have less than 10k gold available for others to raid and that would eliminate alot of possible raiders.

2 days before upgrade i can easily farm the gold i need.

This way i would upgrade my walls and at the same time be less "farmable" for for days instead of getting slammed for 6 days.

I was able to farm enough gold to update defenses and walls simultaneously all the way through to TH8. I had all Skull walls halfway through the upgrade to TH9 and was able to have full Gold and Elixer storages when the upgrade finished. The key was scheduling the upgrades so builders did not free up too often at the same time.

I have not been able to do this at TH9. I don't know if it is the new loot system, the cost of the upgrades, or that I had less time to play, but I could farm only enough gold to fuel upgrades. Even then I would have a builder or two free every once in while. So my walls stayed at lvl 8 until I finished all the other upgrades. So now I sit here with 5 builders sleeping while I farm. Every time I get 1 mil in gold, I upgrade another wall to lvl 9. I am not sure I will stay at TH9 until I have all lvl 9 walls. I may get super bored just doing walls for a month or so. But, I do need to upgrade my Heroes quite a bit too.

I can use this time to practice raiding with a variety of armies. I'll have plenty of Elixir......

How often do you attack then? And for how long a day do you spend playing? It takes me about a week of solid farming to max my storages

I still don't quite understand how if you had 1 day left for an upgrade, you would spend your gold on walls, and then when your builder becomes free, you would manage to farm enough to do another upgrade

Many hardcore farmers raid 1 mil gold an hour using barch or BAM. It also requires a bit of luck by finding lots of abandoned bases and/or using a minimal amount of troops. This is without boosting barracks.

It also depends on how expensive the upgrade is.

Realistically, farming half a mil gold an hour is not too difficult if you can do 3 full raids within an hour, attacking bases that are offering 150k-200k gold. This can be done with a mixed army of giants, healer(s), barbs, archers, and gobs. You can even throw in some hogs and minions to increase raiding power and decrease build times.

I will simplify this for u: 3 builders out of 4 are taking days to finish an upgrade. He has one builder free, and lots of resources in his storages so he chooses to spend it on upgrading walls, because he will easily be able to get the gold back which was spent on walls before the builders finish their work. This way he can afford new upgrades when the builders get free, and the walls are also upgraded. Another reason is that he wants to put the gold safe in the walls from raiders.

Because farming gold is easy..at least for me it is at th7. I can easily get 1+ million gold without barrack boost. 200 army camp, use 100 archers 80 barbs and 10 wbs. Works wonders.
