Actually, even with the updated loot system it is still smarter to hold off on upgrading the TH. For example, I'm not going to upgrade my TH for another few months even though I'm close to being a capped TH8. Why? Because of the loot system! Farming is still more efficient by not upgrading the TH prematurely due to the still present loot penalty multiplier. I'm not saying that it's not efficient to upgrade the TH if you aren't fully max'd, but saying that the concept of waiting to upgrade the TH is "outdated" with the updated loot system is just false.

If you know how to play you can do whatever feels right for you. however iv noticed alot of people are really clueless. Talked to someone today who gemmed his lvl 3 barb upgrade when he has 3 builder huts. other people seem to think army camps are a waste because "it's to expensive for 5 more toops.....".

If you know how to play, you'll find you'r way.
    I agree too...

but there is many people too... that they know how to play, but they get stuck on endless camping because everyone told them too... I have 3 friends on other clans, they are very active and should progress very well, but they are stopped by a premie th10 that convince them to cancel their th upgrade and max everything.

lol... they are maxing th7... now they are early th8...
after wasting their time like a month, they still get farmed by th9 guys.
they should have progress better if they come to th8 early to avoid being farmed by stronger guys

seems like my edit is a bit late..

The reasoning on non active people 'rushing' TH can goes both ways
When people isn't active, they will have a harder time to recover the loses when being raided and thus will have a hard time to upgrade to their next offence level (and every upgrade in general). So, maxing your base might also be a better option because your base will be stronger and might be able to prevent some possible loses. There's also no guarantee that you can get enough loot to upgrade your offence at higher TH level simply because you're too busy from playing (1~3 raid per play will be bad because other people will easily take your profit and leave you on loss. this depend on luck which base/how much loot that you find though...)

Another argument is about non active people probably don't have as much skills as active farmers. Simply because they have less playtime and experience compared to active farmers (2nd account doesn't count). So they will have an even harder time to raid because loot penalty on lower TH level. When your skills isn't that good yet, you will want to wait from upgrading your TH and polish your skills first (especially new player that still doesn't know how most troops go)

There's also an increased next button fee, which again, will drain your storage depend on how lucky you are in finding bases (and the bases you can raid in general due to your skills)

It's a bit abstract actually... We need a definition on how much play is considered not active player, but at least you can use these question to tell if someone is ready to upgrade TH:
    - Is your farming army maxed? (for super active farmer)
    - From whom do you usually get your loots? (if you get it from TH lower than yours, you're not that ready because you will struggle to get loot at next TH level)

But in the end, it's your game. Just do whatever you want with it

    max or rush?

Both are just opinions. Nobody tell anybody how to play

I know loot penalty still exist... it's avoidable if you're on the proper league for your th.
for example if you're th9, and you're on silver league... of course you will feel the effects because that's where the th6 and th7 are...
but if you're playing on crystal league where the majority is th9-th10, and you will see no differ on loot.

and beside that loot penalty, have you think too about how much base you skip because your th8 troops can't get the loot yet?
and have you ever failed in raids because you runs of of troops once you are close to the targets?

    I will give some example...
in the past loot system, there is no difference of loot between a th6 and th9 that have full storages. you will get the same 200K from them. so, there is no points to get stronger troops while you can get 200k from the TH6.
So, it's true when people said TH7 is the best because you can easily destroy TH6 and get 200K.

    it's now changed...
th6 offer 200K for full storage, but TH9 now offer more... they have 350K for full storage
of course... you can't get them with TH7 troops, you must have stronger troops to get more loot

    ---
    for the recap

on old system, either you have lv.4 or lv.6 troops, you will get the same 200K
for the new system, the stronger troops you have, the more loots you'll get

I beg to differ. I believe moving on when offense is ready is the way to go until a certain point. From th7 onwards, one should start paying more attention to defenses. But having a near maxed th8, and still hanging around because you're afraid of the loot change is just silly. A maxed th8 won't stop a skilled th9 from leveling ur base with loons or hogs. The loot change left th8 with nearly 300k resources easily raidable. Furthermore, th8 defenses just don't cut it against the army of th9. So now you have 300k available to be raided, but still don't have sufficient defenses to protect them.

Moving on to the offense. What does a th8 gain in terms of offensive power? No larger army, just an extra level of troops. It's slightly stronger than th7 power, but not nearly enough to take out maxed th8, let alone th9 or higher. To me, th8 has the weakest upgrade in offensive power, while th9 has the largest boost (after th7). At th9 you not only get an extra level troop, but also more camp space. This allows you to easily crush any th8 for nearly 300k loot. But that's not all, a th9 can effectively raid any other town halls, including th10 if u know how to work around infernos. Next to that, a th9 has much stronger defenses than a th8. Furthermore, it gets an extra storage to distribute the resources. Thus making it less likely to lose all four storages.

To to me, after the loot change, th8 is definitely not the place u wanna stay too long.

My objective in the game is to max TH8, move to TH9 and max it until TH10. I'm a farmer, but i don't attack that much...
