Good ideas! I will add some. Thanks to everyone who gave suggestions! It really helps.

I am actually going to organize the entire thing, because the list is getting big. There will be categories like defenses, extra buildings, walls, traps, ect.

    Thanks MathewWang2012 for the sig!

Hey Nathan, this was a very thorough write up and I appreciate the work that you put into the forums.

Only 2 things I want to touch on: Heroes and CC

Heroes: I somewhat agree with you, the average level player knows how to dispose of improperly centralized Heroes in an 'efficient' mannor. Thus, making them somewhat 'use less' as I think you might have put it, on defense. That's why you make them sleep so that they are fully restored when you log on and are ready to clash away.

    However

For players like me who farm 99% of the time, heroes play a big part in my defense, I will try to quickly summarize why.

Time. Before you enter any battle, your biggest enemy is t the defense, it's that 3 minute clock hanging over your head. More so if you are looking to 3 star for trophies, but not so much for a farmer. The point I am trying to make though is that even if it takes 30+ seconds to Alert, Lure and Kill your Barb king and Archer Queen, they are now down to 2:30 or less to get the job done. Also the troops they expended just shortened their army. Now if you have a properly centralized CC, they still have another world of pain to deal with before they can fully focus on your base, but I'll get to the CC next. Heroes cause an intimidation factor that has to be accounted for and simply cannot be ignored. All of us have skipped bases at one point or another, not because we couldn't beat them, but becAuse we couldn't be bothered to spend time/troops taking out the Heroes, we skipped for bases less complicated and "easier". Also the obvious thing about Heroes is that if they are foolish enough to overlook Barb king or Archer queen, (It Happens lol) They will wreak havoc on Giants/Hogs, even with heal spells/Healer.
Lastly about Heroes, and recovery time, is that again, to ppl like myself who farm 99% of the time, we EXPECT to have our TH destroyed after every raid and thus end up with a 12 hour shield, so the vast majority of the time my heroes go down, My shield goes up. Yin meets Yang. By the time I log on, I'm ready to go with my heroes rested. Now obviously, every now and again, someone attacks you, ignores your townhall and tries to go ham on your base. They kill your heroes, you log on like (♥♥♥) and have to wait a while for them to recover and have no shield to protect you, leaving you with a sense of vulnerability. It's short lived, we get over it, and clash on, for nothing in here is perfect, not even symmetry

CC: I loved the way you broke down the clan castle, including an explanation for it needing to be centralized. One ***BIG*** thing that a lot of people really forget about their CC though is.....simply...TO KEEP IT FULL!!

There is no point in having a central CC that's empty, complete waste. I heavily agree with you about the choice of troops as well. Personally, I use and abuse level 5 wizards, because a single lighting strike wil NOT kill them all, they have the highest dps per CC space, their splash damage destroys Giants because its overpowering to any heal spell and of healer. Archers are cool too

I simply REFUSE to log off with an empty CC. If you were TH9+, would you leave your X bows empty? No! Your inferno towers empty at TH10? No! Some people will remember to re spring traps and bombs quicker than CC troops.
My advice to anyone new or newish reading this is to learn from my mistakes. Keep your CC full at all times, try to oh use your troops for defense unless your clan mates are actively online and are training/will train for your next request.

The most painful replays are those where your CC is empty or your upgrading a Key Defense. Seriously.

Sorry for the long rant LoL but I thought it was an excellent post, I agree it should be a sticky as Well

    Thanks again Nathan!

I will add that heroes take time to kill, so they can be good, even when they aren't centered.

IMO, the clan castle is good centered, even when empty, because it takes time to check for clan castle troops. Sometimes I spend 15 seconds trying to lure an empty clan castle.

    thanks for posting this.

    Upgrading defensive building

You might want to add something that while a defensive building is being upgraded it can be moved outside the walls as it currently doesn't provide any benefit to keeping it behind them. I try to place an upgrading defensive building where it is covered by some splash damage. Giants, Hogs and Balloons will still target an upgrading defensive building so if positioned right you can really mess up an attack. Also mention to be sure to fill in the space where the building was so you don't create a unintended hole in the middle of your base.

Good idea. I will add that. I will also add that you shouldn't do this with a hog base.
