It seems everything but the laboratory research speed can be increased by gems. It would be nice to be able to increase the upgrade time by using gems. I know you can use gems to finish early as with spells etc but you can not increase the time say 1 day for xx gems. This could help to finish upgrades if you are close, have elixir you want to use for the next upgrade and do not want to loose the elixir in a raid or use it on something else. Also handy if your shield is up. This may of been suggested but I could not find it.
