A simple idea. When you attack and 100% someone's base when they have troops occupying their army camps, you can sway them to your side (if you have the needed funds to pay them). Troops that you acquire from other bases will have a red like crystal hovering above them. During battle, these troops can be capable of not following your commands and might head for the treeline towards the base you took them from depending on how much loot you offer for their services.
This is somewhat similar to having troops die when camps were destroyed. This used to happen and it was terrible. One of the nice things about this game is that you can attack, log off, and wait for your troops to build without having to worry about them.
