End of the day you can either play for free or buy gems, you have a choice. Unlike WoW you have to pay to play. So in that respect, it is a free game with in-app purchase. Other gaming apps have in-app purchases, its not illegal or unethical.

I see what the OP is saying with regards to there being no way to be top-tier competitive without gemming. Games like Starcraft require no extra cash (game wise anyways) to be competitive, and top players in the world earn a very good living playing. Though practice and play is all they do for 10+ hours a day, everyday, to be able to be even semi competitive at the top level. Theirs is the sacrifice of time/practice and not so much money.
That being said, I like the fact that you can get everything in this game without paying a dime, albeit it will take longer. To me the point of any good game is longevity and replayability. Not to mention the excellent social aspect of the game.
I have only dropped $50 on this game (to purchase builders and one time I was maxed gold and no free builders, so I popped $5 to get a sheild). This is no more than I would spend on any PC or PS3/Xbox game.
@OP, if being in the top 10 is what you want, might want to find another game.
I get that you're new, so I won't critique you from a game-centered perspective. I just think it's alarming that you base your entire post off one or maybe a few youtube videos of some big spenders. And even if someone decides to start gemming the heck out of his or her base, it has to be quite evident already from the start that the increasing gem prices are due to increased upgrade times.
As has pointed out, what you buy with gems is essentially time, and it is based on personal choice - no one holds a gun to your head and tells you to buy gems. I can agree with you that in order to compete at the very top of leagues, excessive input of both time and gems is probably required in many cases, but as Stitch pointed out it can also be achieved by hard work and effort.
But please, don't go and base your opinions on a single youtube video or a few, and definetly not if your thoughts and opinions lean towards trying to illegalize a concept or file a lawsuit against it. You can finish the game without buying gems, it will just take longer. If you're aiming to compete in the very top leagues, you're in for some long gaming sessions, though. Should you choose to set your strong opinions about the gem requirements etc aside and choose to continue playing, and perhaps spend gems (either earned through different achievements etc ingame, or bought with money) on something, I recommend getting more builders. It's the single best thing you possibly can do to speed your game up in the long run.
Gems buy time. The people who gem are not patient enough to wait for their base to grow.
Buying gems is optional I play the game because it is social and fun to play and meet people who have the same interests
you couldn't sue anybody it is the same as any game where you have to buy things
Clash royale: acc 1= lvl9 royal giant 2500+ trohpies
acc 2= lvl8 hog 1900+ trophies
lol, the people who do spend hundreds of dollars to insta train armies and level up the armies are mostly only youtubers that get sponsors from applications that provide gems for doing certain stuff or very high level players.
I dont think any sane person would spend hundreds of dollars to do everything in the game. I haven't met any of those except them youtubers but thats not a problem for them as they got sponsored.
really nothing to whine about, and cap on max cash per day? lol, thats the craziest idea ever. Get real, this game is not going to last forever, and Supercell needs to make as much money they can when they can do it.
I never said i hated the game, I like it a lot. There are just things in this game that i have never been exposed to, such as the fact that it is pay to win and you can buy pass building up your profile and bypass the entire experience of the game simply by throwing money at your computer screen when there is no end in sight.
Exactly, the game won't last very long because you can bypass everything simply by paying cash. They don't have any respect for their playerbase because they are trying to milk it for all its worth even if it means having a illegitimate game and sucking it dry and fast.
you can bypass everything if you are willing to spend over 5000$ on gems. 99.99% won't spend anywhere close to that amount. The game won't last long, but that won't be because of people maxing out everything quickly...
How many people have maxed out bases compared to the player base of this game? I'd say less than 2%.
