This was me too, esp on my alt.
On my main I took the long course of maxing everything out (not disappointed that I went that route, just a longer trip)
I was steam rolled frequently by particularly Lvl 6 Giants; and lvl 6 Barch/Bam to a lesser degree (they 2 star me and take all my loots, but stop just shy of 90 %)
so on my alt, I said screw it .. and was like "if you cant beat them join them" rushed to TH9 (I had my farming troops up to lvl 5 already)
now if you go this route, just know you must raid a fair bit initially to get things going.. Lab/Troops, Camps/Spell Factory etc... but the premie defenses were kind of nice since I could keep my builders busy on projects that did not require the heavy costs, and the long build times of TH9 life stuff..
If you go to TH9 early, plan on having 40K Dark elixir for the AQ, and hope to have the stores filled so you can get at least one X-Bow going right away.. the rest will fall into place if you have sufficient time to raid for the necessary upgrades..
I did my Giants first-> Archers -> Minions-> Barbs.. then you are really set to farm any TH in most any range..
This is just what I did, not premie law.. so if you think the cheaper Barbs need to be first, then by all means do what works for you.. with TH10 around and the new loot system making TH8 and attractive target, going to TH9 early isn't as bad as it was like 6 months or so ago.
but to the question; there is very little to defend against them tbh.. so decide if you can wait it out and hang at a lower range for a while, or if its time to make the leap to TH9.

ahha your right its not premmie but th9 love you cause there are only 2 storages to worrie about not 3 like a th8 should have!
I saw your "journey" thread…can i ask you a question? Do you keep one worker free for walls or you spend on them extra gold before starting an upgrade?

Do not listen to three storages if you buy them keep them low and use as a shield as earlier recommended it will come to point if you not farming for hours a day where you will have free builders
lol 3 storages means 3 storages need to be taken out to get all the loot. If you have 2 or 3 storages the loot stays the same so it might not be a dumb thing to do to get that 3th storage, just think about it! why do you not raid th9? cause they have 4 storages and in order to get whatever loot you can get you need to take all 4 storages
