So I have been looking over the forums and I haven't seen any direct guide to farming gold efficiently, so I thought I would write one. Also I just wanted to let you know that this is the first big post I will have made.

Introduction
So, in this guide I am going to try and teach you all the important things about farming gold or elixir (other forum posters have covered dark elixir). Lets get into it.
1-Army
Always keep your troops queued during battle for the maximum effeciency and so that you have to wait less time between battles.
You have probably heard of farming armies such as BAM, BAG or BARCH and these are farming armies but you can make any army you want to farm as long as its cost can be covered, which we will come back to in chapter four. But you can also choose to add in some giants as a meat shield or even to distract defences while you break into the core. Your army depends on your play style and what kind of bases you will be targeting. Personally I use BAM or BARCH and primarilly target collector bases.
2-Activity
Now activity is another key area for being a successful farmer, I may be seen as an excessively active player but I can assure you that if you come online once a day you will never earn enough loot to forfill your objectives. So I would say to come online whenever your troops are done training so you can attack queue troops and go back to what you were doing. Whenever I go offline for a long period of time(night, lunch...) I try and build a strong army that can take lots of loot and trophies we will see more about that in the next chapter. For this area of the game I can just say try and be as active as possible.
3-Bases
The bases you will be looking for depend on your army, your play style and your patience. I go for collector bases with at least 100k of each in them or bases with over 150k gold in the center and that I am sure to get. As for the farming range it changes all the time from day to day even from hour to hour so if ever you can find any good loot change up your trophy range. Appart from that you are looking for accessible collectors or weak bases. And don't forget if you are hesitating to much on a base just skip it another good one could be just behind it.
4-Profit
The whole point in farming is profit so you can upgrade your buildings. You only ever want to attack bases that will give you a profit by that I mean covers you army cost spells and is worth your time. The way you should see it is you want to decrease the amount of troops/loot as much as possible so don't spam all your troops on 1 pump try and use just the right amount to take it down.
5-Spending
Now comes the good part: wait till you have to log off before splashing the cash as you may get enough gold for an even better building then you were planning to upgrade. Try and spread out your upgrades so that you won't be without a builder for to long. You can try keeping one spare builder for walls if your next builder doesn't finish for more than a day. I can usually max my storages in 1 day but change this rule if you get loot faster or slower. If you are saving up for something in particular focus on that goal don't get something else just because it is cheaper.
Conclusion
Some days loot just isn't there but don't worry it always comes back.
If you follow this guide and it helps you please reply I would love to know if there are some things I should change or I didn't mention. Also may this help accomplish your dreams.
thanks
John
