    I am also curious where the DE drill goes? This seems to be the best th7 layout and I have a near-maxed TH7 account (my third; Cheyenne) that needs a better layout because even barch by fellow th7 right now are taking out everything on me. However, this base is quite old, and there's no information on where to best put the drill (and have it protected decently).

    I just reached TH7 not too long ago and I'm really loving this base design. Let's hope someone more experienced would be able to give some advice on where to place the DE drill. I've left that hanging for some time as well.

    After trying a whole variety of Th7 designs, I realized that up to TH7, layouts rely too much on basic defense and not on troop AI. Way too many designs overlook the importance of traps, and just leave them outside where any troop can set them off.

    The Mantis features a Trophy and Farming base, each with two different layouts:

    TROPHY



    FARMING




    As 184letsburnitdown pointed out, If giants regularly target the south mortar instead of the side cannons, switching the mortar with a non-defensive building can help avoid this.




    Same issue but with the B layout.



    By switching the northern mortar with the Clan Castle, Giants will be lured towards side funnels instead of trying to break into the core.


    THE LAYOUT




    BASE FEATURES AND GAME MECHANICS

    The beauty of what this base offers, although to a lesser extent ( TH7, less walls, buildings to buffer dmg), is exactly what the Tempest does: keeping the Vault unharmed while luring the enemy around the base.


    • Centralized Clan Castle ( In Farming layout)
    • Centralized AD
    • Triangular Mortars
    • NO X,Y,Z Junction
    • Optimized Trap Placement.
    • Hybrid Base perfect for Clan Wars, switch back and forth between Trophy and Farming


    The base is also very versatile, as the mortar's and air defense triangulated area of effect can be augmented and lessened according to the user's preference base on his needs ( see each base's different layout).

    I cannot stress enough the importance of swapping: by placing storage accordingly, either on the top left and right pockets or in the core, attackers tend to gravitate towards those areas.


    If you don't want the attacker to breach the core, just swap a WT with a resource storage and make him attack either to the right or left side of the base.




    Even though Giants did not enter the path through the cannon, they still travel south and get spring trapped:

    I'm also dealing with DE drill but I think I may have a solution. I haven't mapped it yet but am going to dismantle the extra wall at the bottom and use that to form another compartment. Move some of the defenses around and allocate the drill close to the center. I believe this will work. If anyone else has any recommendations let us know though. Hope this helps some people.

    I've been using this base for quite some time now. Overall it's a nice base. But today for the first time I've been 3 stared by a strong and th 8.

    He used 17 level 5 giants, 24 level 5 wizards 10level 5 wall breakers, level 5 king, cc with Archers and wizards, 2 healing spell and rest were Archers.

    My cc had level 5 Archers and the traps were armed too. My level 5 king was at the center of the base. But my two point defenses and one air defense were being upgraded at that moment.

    Anyway, the attacker attacked from the bottom. He used his giants and wallbreaker to make a clear path to the center of the base so the funneling didn't work. Although my cc Archers were doing great but the healing spell worked against them.

    Actually the cc troops worked somewhat against me as they attracted all the wizards to the center of the base. The attacker took 200k elixir, 150k gold and 850 DE.

    Apart from the weakness at the bottom of the bottom of the base I believe this is a very good base.

    I currently use it in war and farming.

    I just don't like how people up and penetrate from the bottom of this base.

    I'm using it and that's the biggest problem, they just spam wall breakers from the bottom and get to the center. From there they tear the base inside out.

    It's strong from any other angle though, unfortunately, it's not for me.
