I understand the need for censorship and believe that most people, myself included, wish for a civil and engaging social experience. However, I also wish we had more freedom in the game when it comes to the social aspect.
I love the game and think there's many amazing aspects but just think that Supercell has drawn the line too close the side of censorship, which makes me feel boxed in sometimes.
Here's some examples of things we
cannot do, because of Supercell's strong belief of censorship.
- Search for players
- Send private messages
- Send players a rejection message when they try to join clan
- Advance search clans
- Keep an in-game friend list
- Browse different globals / clans / chat channels
- Add detailed clan description
I know there are alternatives like Facebook and the moderated forums but it's not the same. All these things would add a great deal of enjoyment to the game for the majority of players but they have all been scrapped due to concerns of how a select minority of people will abuse them.
Trolls will be trolls and they will always find a way to troll so why put so much emphasis into trying to stop them? In one example, the rejection message idea was ruled out in fear that people will send nasty messages. By that logic why can we chat at all if people
can be nasty to each other? I always feel bad when I reject someone without being able to give them a good reason why (or what to improve on) because we can't always fit all the requirements in the clan description.
At what point does the enjoyment lost from censorship outweigh the hazards it prevents?
Let me know what you think. Thanks for reading.
