You will spend because it's cost-effective, in other words spy will return you more and more DE. If you are so busy doing lots of things, I don't think it would be hard for you to manage such kind of troop. You see, so called "turning against" is bringing more dynamism, new flavors and vivid character to the game. It's kind of new dimension. The game will turn from somewhat static to a lil bit autonomous and unpredictable in some way.
Instead of looking like a NINJA...which a Spy wouldn't, to fit the peoples idea of Ancient times, couldn't the guy look like a villager (claps and everything)...once the loot max is made (or he dies from Watchtower), he returns the loot to you and blips out like every other troop after a battle. That way, no OP because of lifetime.
I would say:
Level 1 can steal only gold
Level 2 learns to steal elixir too (With higher limits)
Level 3 finally learns how to steal DE (With max limit reached)

I'm sorry but i don't really like the idea. If someone was farming and he/she used a spy on a bad base with no watch tower, then they would get really cheesed off about their loot slowly disappearing and they could do nothing about it until the spy died. This troop would eventually just become a nuisance and would strike up loads of complaints. Personally i'de rather not have th9 farmers constantly spawning spies in my base and draining my loot system, it would be extremely difficult to make profit and progress.
However it's a very well planned and presented idea for a newbie to the forums. Well done for all your effort.

I really appreciate the time that was put into the OP, and I actually enjoy the complexity of the troop, but I think that this idea still requires some tweaks. Farming would allow certain players to get this troop earlier than a looter could buy the Watchtower (but to be honest, if the Wizard Tower were to be tweaked so that the Wizards were capable of sensing the spy through magic, the Watchtower idea would not need to be implemented). I also think that the idea to create a whole new defensive building just to stop one type of troop is unwise. If the Watchtower was multi-purpose I could see it being a possibility.

Amazing idea but I just don't like the idea of it staying in the opponents village.
The only thing i would change is the amount stolen from drill. People who have low level drills will be unable to gain any DE from the drill. Maybe 10-15% would be better!
I have seen spy in the sub forums before but nothing this good, but it is a big step for supercell, because they hqve to create a watchtower as well
I realy like this idea, to be honest, I like it more than my ideas, I realy hope it gets put into the game

I'f got a idea. If it returns, you can give it a building like the barbarian king. It can rest out he will stay and he will not desturb your troop train program. But i'f don't like the watchtower idea why isn't that the spy can only see the spy because thats a lot better. And you can get it in th9 so it wont steel from lower people because its baset on thropies
