I have mixed feelings on this.

The inability to directly communicate with other players in the game can be really frustrating.

OTOH, in-game chat has been a mixed blessing in other games I've played. People can be jerks. Am I going to get nastygrams now from people who are upset that I bought their duct tape without filling their soy sauce crates? Is the "no raiders" vs. "I'll buy what I want" debate going to move from the forum to the game?

I agree. No doubt there will be a minority who will abuse the chat system, hence the trimming of GC friends list.
So I am not sure whether the chat system will be a force for good or for bad, I'll have to wait and see, I suppose there will be a method to turn off chat if you want to.

So I'm sitting here enjoying HD and out of the blue a guy and his son walk to my door. I normally don't answer but something told me to. Being a mo of 3 kiddos, maybe it was that gut feeling.
So I get up, my 2 month old crying hungry, 12 and 2 yr old playing on the tablet. The guy smiled and said his son is out of school like they all are and was looking for extra money. So was asking to scrape sidewalks and driveways. 5$/10$. I listened and would glAnce at the kid. He would give me this look. I felt really like something was going on. So I said not right now And gave a smile. He said thanks at least I listened. THis whole time this guy was acting very nervous and at times he sounded like his voice was shakey and slurred.
I being an overprotective mommy, called the police to at least let them now. I have nothing against the money just the guy and how the kid was acting.
So I sat back down and start playing again and feeding baby lol. I'm that good! One hand game the other bottle.
Anyway, I hear a guy talking really loud and look. I see a different guy get I the side, a different guy get in front, the kid in the back and this other guy drives. This was about 10 min ago. I'm fighting this urge to call them back and tell them. At least I got the plate number and make/model of car. I'm soo worried for his kid!

Same here. On one hand, I'm excited if we get a chat, but also can see it happening like you said. Should be interesting to see how it'll work out.

I'm with you on that. I actually don't want a chat in-game. Ppl gonna be sending "do you have x amount of tapes?" "don't be greedy you bought too much!" "help my boat!" messages. It will be really annoying. I hope there is a function to disable the chat feature, or at least let us block ppl from directly contacting us.

Also DD will become almost useless. No one is going to sell good stuff (BEM/SEM/cake/juice etc. etc.) on DD because they can easily trade them.
